Carlos Alcaraz, riding a six-match win streak and boasting a 57-2 record against players outside the top 20, is heavily favored to defeat Zizou Bergs in the ATP Shanghai Masters third round. Alcaraz showed dominant form after returning from injury, while Bergs, despite playing well in Shanghai, has struggled against top 10 opponents. Carlos Alcaraz vs Zizou Bergs ATP Shanghai Tips, Prediction & Live Stream

Carlos Alcaraz has won 57 of his last 59 matches against players outside the top 20 and the Spaniard is tipped for another relatively routine victory when he comes up against World No. 39 Zizou Bergs on Monday night in the Shanghai Masters third round.

Shanghai is one of three Masters 1000 titles Alcaraz has yet to win and the Spaniard has a great opportunity to emerge triumphant at this tournament with the absence of Jannik Sinner, who has called time on his season due to a mysterious knee injury.

Alcaraz is riding a six-match winning streak from his title victory in Tokyo last week and looked sharp in a straight sets demolition of Juan Manuel Cerundolo in his Shanghai opener, not facing a break point and firing 24 winners.

Meanwhile, Bergs is defending quarter-final points from a breakthrough Masters 1000 run in Shanghai last year and is looking good again, advancing to the third round without dropping a set.

However, Bergs has a poor record against the top 10, losing 14 of his 16 matches - and quite a few of them have been one-sided.

With Alcaraz in the mood and back playing big tennis following his injury layoff, tough to see Bergs causing him much trouble here. Alcaraz to win with Under 20.5 total games is the play.
  • Alcaraz has a 57-2 record in his last 59 matches vs 20+ ranked players dating back to March 2025
  • Alcaraz has won his last six matches
  • Alcaraz has a 19-1 record in his last 20 second matches of a tournament
  • Bergs has a 2-14 record vs top 10 players
  • Eight of those 11 best-of-three defeats for Bergs vs the top 10 have seen Under 20.5 games
  • Bergs has a 5-11 record in his third match of a tournament

Alcaraz vs Bergs Head To Head

Alcaraz leads 1-0, winning the pair's Tokyo second round clash in straight sets last year.

Carlos Alcaraz Form Analysis

  • 2026 ATP Record: 33-4
  • ATP Shanghai Record: 6-2
  • Current Ranking: No. 3
  • Career-High Ranking: No. 1 (2022)

Alcaraz hasn't really missed a step after being sidelined for almost five months with a wrist injury.

The 23-year-old has won 10 of his 11 matches since returning to action, making the US Open quarter-finals before successfully defending his Japan Open title in Tokyo last week, beating Jiri Lehecka in straight sets in the final. The Spaniard also beat Taylor Fritz at the Laver Cup.

Aiming for a maiden Shanghai Masters title this tournament, Alcaraz launched his campaign with a clean 6-3 6-3 victory over Juan Manuel Cerundolo.

It was Cerundolo who stunned Jannik Sinner at Roland Garros earlier this season, but there was nothing he could do against Alcaraz, who struck 24 winners in a dominant 6-3 6-3 victory.

Zizou Bergs Form Analysis

  • 2026 ATP Record: 22-21
  • ATP Shanghai Record: 7-2
  • Current Ranking: No. 39
  • Career-High Ranking: No. 33 (Aug 2026)

Bergs still has some work to do when it comes to consistency and delivering his best tennis week in and week out on tour, but his good weeks in 2026 have been enough to propel him into the top 40.

The Belgian won his maiden ATP title on the grass of Eastbourne and has been solid over the last couple of months, reaching the third round at both Wimbledon and the US Open.

It was a breakout tournament of sorts for Bergs in Shanghai last year as he defeated Casper Ruud to make his first Masters 1000 quarter-final before falling to Novak Djokovic.

Bergs is again playing well in the Chinese city, bulldozing his way into the third round with 6-3 6-1 and 6-0 6-3 demolitions over Vit Kopriva and Ignacio Buse.

Verdict

Alcaraz rarely loses to players outside the top 20 and Bergs has just two top 10 scalps in his career - this should be a relatively routine win for the Spaniard.
