The Caulfield Cup remains one of Australia's most coveted staying prizes, with an intriguing mix of proven Group 1 performers and emerging stayers already featuring prominently in early markets for the 2026 edition.
Several contenders enhanced their credentials through the autumn carnival, particularly those who excelled when stepping out to longer trips and looked capable of further improvement as mature stayers.
Others are looking to rebound from interrupted preparations or build on strong staying performances ahead of the spring, creating a fascinating futures market headed by some of Australia's leading middle-distance and staying prospects.

2026 Caulfield Cup Best Bet - Aeliana
Her autumn culminated with back-to-back Group 1 victories inside seven days, firstly when taking out the Ranvet Stakes on Golden Slipper Day where the step to 2000m suited Aeliana.
She then relished the rise to 2400m when reeling in a brave Dubai Honour, who almost pinched that March 28 feature off a terrific ride.
The four-year-old was in a drought following her Australian Derby triumph in autumn 2025, although she remained Group 1 competitive earlier in the season before a spring campaign that fell away.
Those March performances before a break suggest she'll relish the staying trips as an early five-year-old.
She could prove even more effective over two miles in the Melbourne Cup, but the Caulfield Cup seems the safest option for where she'll go, with the daughter of Castelvecchio a deserving favourite in early markets.
2026 Caulfield Cup Value Bet - She's A Hustler
The daughter of Ace High has been a model of consistency and, although she'll enter next season as a six-year-old, remains very lightly raced.
She boasts an impressive record of seven wins and five placings from 14 starts.
Her first time finishing out of the money came with an eye-catching return for fourth in the Group 1 Queen of the Turf Stakes in April.
Although a touch disappointing in the Doomben Cup last time out, she'll be looking to atone in the Q22 at Eagle Farm on June 13.
She ticked the 2400m box when taking out the Zipping Classic before a break, getting the better of Light Infantry Man, who has won two of his first three starts this year including the Group 1 Australian Cup, and she shapes as a classy, consistent mare likely to be well weighted for a Caulfield Cup in October.
2026 Caulfield Cup Roughie - Gilded Water
Happy to put a line through the Sandown failure when returning on May 23, where EIPH was detected.
He's in the nominations for the June 13 program, so it is fair to assume all is well with Gilded Water, who was bred by the late Queen Elizabeth II and is owned by King Charles III.
The gelding has always shown above-average ability in Australia despite the spring not quite panning out as expected.
There was still merit in a Bart Cummings third after going too hard in front in that Group 3, while the campaign culminated with a runner-up finish as an odds-on favourite in the Geelong Cup.
Plans are to stretch him out further for a Melbourne Cup, but he may be better suited in the 2000m-2400m range based on what we've seen, and a futures quote could shorten sharply should he bounce back at Sandown.
