The 2026 Thousand Guineas adds another Group 1 highlight to Caulfield Cup Day on Saturday, with 13 three-year-old fillies contesting the 1600m feature and several emerging talents looking to claim their first elite-level victory.

First run in 1946, the Thousand Guineas has long been a major spring target for Australia's leading fillies, with past winners including Atlantic Jewel, Miss Finland and Guelph. This year's edition brings together a competitive mix of established stakes performers and progressive three-year-olds.

At $4.20 with Dabble, Regal Ambition heads the market for the 2026 Thousand Guineas.

2026 Thousand Guineas Tips

2026 Thousand Guineas Best Bet - Regal Ambition

Heading a competitive early market is Regal Ambition, who has made improvement since her sole two-year-old appearance and looks well placed to continue her rise in Saturday's Group 1 Thousand Guineas.

The Lindsay Park-trained filly showed plenty of promise without winning on debut and returned with a stylish first-up victory over 1200m at Sandown, defeating the Ciaron Maher-trained Stipulation, who subsequently broke through at Geelong before proving competitive at Group 2 level.

Regal Ambition then made the necessary progression when swooping from last to claim the Jim Moloney Stakes, landing the cash for us while ending Pretty Baby's winning streak with a decisive one-length victory. Platinum Pearl was another 1.5 lengths away in third, and importantly, Regal Ambition was conceding race fitness to both rivals, suggesting she could have further improvement to come.

The daughter of Palace Pier has clearly been aimed towards this race and now looks ready to peak third-up over 1600m. She appreciated being left alone at the rear last time before building momentum with a sweeping run around the field, so a wider barrier isn't necessarily a negative if the track allows runners to make ground.

The race-day pattern will be important, but having already proven herself at Caulfield and shown the strongest turn of foot among these fillies, Regal Ambition looks potentially the most talented runner in the field and is a deserving favourite.
2026 Thousand Guineas Next Best Bet - Icelady

The early double-figure quote for Icelady looks surprising, and it wouldn't be a shock to see significant market support for the Ciaron Maher-trained filly, who again combines with Ethan Brown. The pair have developed an outstanding big-race partnership in recent seasons, including their Thousand Guineas triumph with Another Prophet in 2024.

Ignore the maiden tag she carried into her latest victory, as that second at Geelong behind Over Excited came over a distance short of her best, and that Geelong form was subsequently strengthened through Satono Glow, who followed her victory over Over Excited with another impressive success in last Saturday's Group 2 Roman Consul Stakes at Rosehill.

Icelady then relished the rise to 1400m when claiming the Thousand Guineas Prelude at an each-way quote for us, controlling the race from the front before comfortably holding out stablemate Saintly Dancer by three-quarters of a length.

The early market has Saintly Dancer at around half Icelady's quote, a discrepancy that looks difficult to justify. Saintly Dancer was impressive winning at Flemington on testing ground before the Prelude, but she's now sixth-up in her first preparation and returns to firmer conditions, whereas Icelady is only third-up here.

Her pedigree also suggests the daughter of Maurice can continue progressing over longer distances, coming from the same family as dual Group 1 winner Kenedna, who excelled over 2000m. Recent Wyong Gold Cup winner Matusalem is another relation, as is Yammer, a four-time stakes winner who proved himself up to 2400m.

Icelady has the tactical speed to roll forward from a wide barrier and should be suited by the rise to 1600m. With proven form, a favourable preparation profile and a price that appears generous relative to her stablemate, she makes strong each-way appeal.
2026 Thousand Guineas Value Bet - Katoto

Chris Waller has Katoto earmarked as a potential VRC Oaks contender, and while Saturday's Thousand Guineas could prove another stepping stone towards that longer-distance target, the progressive filly looks capable of outrunning her big odds.

The daughter of Wootton Bassett showed ability during her first preparation, rounding out that campaign with a third placing in juvenile company at Doomben. She always shaped as a filly who would benefit from greater distances as her three-year-old season progressed, and there have been promising signs in both appearances this time in.

Katoto resumed with a solid fourth at Warwick Farm, with the form subsequently holding up, before stepping to 1440m in the Listed Jim Moloney Stakes. She lacked the turn of foot to match the sharper fillies when the race developed, but her effort to chase through the line was sound.

Those two runs should provide the foundation for further improvement as she gets to 1600m and beyond, with the question being whether Saturday's assignment arrives a little too early in what appears an Oaks-oriented preparation.

Tyler Schiller heads south for the ride and brings strong recent form, highlighted by a winning treble at Rosehill last Saturday, and he'll likely be conservative early in the piece.

Nevertheless, Katoto is building nicely, has already gained valuable experience at Caulfield and looks capable of making further progression at the mile. At bolter's odds, she appeals as a top-three or top-four chance, with Waller looking to add to his three previous Thousand Guineas victories.
