The 2026 Thousand Guineas market has a strong mix of proven spring form and lightly raced upside at the top, with several fillies arriving through different lead-ups ahead of Saturday’s Group 1 mile at Caulfield.
Regal Ambition is the $4 favourite with BetRight after defeating Pretty Baby by a length in the Listed Jim Moloney Stakes over 1440m at Caulfield on September 27. The Ben, Will and JD Hayes-trained filly has continued to progress rapidly this preparation and now gets her chance to step to 1600m for the first time.
Over The Bridge sits at $5 after maintaining her unbeaten record with victory in the Group 3 Scarborough Stakes over 1200m at Caulfield. The Ciaron Maher-trained filly has won both career starts and now faces a significant rise in distance, but her progression and obvious upside have quickly pushed her towards the top of the Thousand Guineas market.
Saintly Dancer is quoted at $6 after producing one of the most dominant lead-up performances of the spring, winning the Group 2 Edward Manifold Stakes over 1600m at Flemington by six lengths. The Ciaron Maher-trained filly has already proven herself over the Guineas distance and now returns to Caulfield after that emphatic breakthrough.
De Armas also sits at $6 following a strong second in the Group 1 Flight Stakes over 1600m at Randwick, where she finished only a neck behind Global Goal. The Chris Waller-trained filly brings proven Group 1 mile form into the race and adds another major Sydney form line to the Thousand Guineas picture.
Pretty Baby rounds out the leading five at $8 after finishing runner-up to Regal Ambition in the Jim Moloney Stakes. The Gordon Richards and Damien Moyle-trained filly had previously won four consecutive races, including a dominant 3.75-length victory in the Listed Atlantic Jewel Stakes, and Damian Lane takes over for Saturday’s Group 1.
With Regal Ambition bringing the strongest local Caulfield lead-up, Saintly Dancer already proven at the mile and De Armas arriving through Group 1 Sydney form, the 2026 Thousand Guineas market remains open at the top ahead of Saturday.

Thousand Guineas History
The Thousand Guineas is a relatively younger addition to the Australian racing calendar compared to many of Melbourne’s traditional spring features, having first been contested in 1946 when Sweet Chime claimed the inaugural edition.
The race was elevated to Group 1 status in 1979 and, from 1988 to 2013, was traditionally staged on the Wednesday of the Caulfield Cup Carnival.
A series of programming changes followed, including a stint on Caulfield Guineas Day and later a move to November after the Melbourne Cup Carnival, before the Thousand Guineas shifted to Caulfield Cup Day from 2025.
Run over 1600m for three-year-old fillies, the race has produced an outstanding honour roll featuring champions and elite performers including Alinghi, Miss Finland, Atlantic Jewel and Jameka.
The most recent winners are Joliestar in 2023, Another Prophet in 2024 and Ole Dancer, who claimed the 2025 edition.
