Sinner missed last year's tournament through suspension, but returns after recently securing the Indian Wells title, beating Daniil Medvedev in the final.

Medvedev is enjoying a nice resurgence and arrives in Miami following an upset win over Alcaraz in the Indian Wells semi-finals.

Other leading contenders include Alexander Zverev, Lorenzo Musetti, Alex de Minaur and Felix Auger-Aliassime. Novak Djokovic has withdrawn.
