Joao Fonseca, a rising teenage star, is set to face Fabian Marozsan at the Miami Masters, aiming for a possible second-round clash with tennis ace Carlos Alcaraz. Fonseca is in remarkable form, coming off impressive performances at Indian Wells. His head-to-head history with Marozsan shows a previous loss on clay; however, Marozsan's current streak is lackluster. Fonseca's hardcourt prowess could play a crucial role as he looks to cover a -2.5 games line, ensuring victory and advancing further in the tournament.

Joao Fonseca vs Fabian Marozsan Tips, Prediction & Live Stream

Teenage sensation Joao Fonseca targets the second round of the Miami Masters when he comes up against Fabian Marozsan on Thursday.

All eyes were drawn to the top quarter when the Miami Masters draw was released earlier this week, with Fonseca potentially facing Carlos Alcaraz in the second round - if he can make it through Marozsan. It would potentially be played in front of the most electric tennis atmosphere of the year, with the gigantic Brazilian population in Miami set to flock to the Hard Rock Stadium in support of their emerging superstar.

However, Fonseca will have to be operating at his best level to overcome Marozsan - the Hungarian has played his best tennis at Masters 1000 level in the past and he also beat the 19-year-old in their only previous meeting. That clash did come on clay and Marozsan is in poor form coming into this contest, going 1-5 in his last six matches. Fonseca played some brilliant tennis in Indian Wells, making the fourth round and pushing eventual champion Jannik Sinner to a pair of tiebreaks. If he maintains that level, Fonseca should set up that blockbuster with Alcaraz.
  • Fonseca has won 10 of his last 15 matches
  • Fonseca has a 25-12 tour-level record on hardcourts
  • Fonseca has a 7-2 record in Masters 1000 first rounds
  • Marozsan has lost five of his last six matches
  • Marozsan coming off a R1 loss to veteran World No. 98 Bautista Agut in Indian Wells

Fonseca vs Marozsan Head To Head

Marozsan leads 1-0, prevailing in straight sets in the opening round of Rome last year.

Joao Fonseca Form Analysis

  • 2026 Record: 4-4
  • ATP Miami Record: 2-1
  • Current Ranking: No. 39
  • Career-High Ranking: No. 24 (Nov 2025)

Fonseca won the big ATP 500 indoors title in Basel to finish off the 2025 season, but unfortunately a back injury contributed him to going winless across the Aussie summer.

The 19-year-old continued to struggle throughout February during the Golden Swing, but he looks to have shaken off the injury and was on fire at Indian Wells.

Indeed, Fonseca picked up three very impressive wins over Raphael Collignon, Karen Khachanov (saving match points) and Tommy Paul before suffering a tight 7-6 7-6 loss to Jannik Sinner in the R16.

It was a performance that further enhanced Fonseca's potential to be the sport's biggest star over the next decade - and he will be hoping to get a shot at the other member of the 'New Two' in Miami.

Fonseca made the third round of Miami in his tournament debut last year, beating Ugo Humbert before falling in three sets to Alex de Minaur.

Fabian Marozsan Form Analysis

  • 2026 Record: 6-7
  • ATP Miami Record: 4-2
  • Current Ranking: No. 46
  • Career-High Ranking: No. 36 (2024)

Marozsan seems destined to operate as a 'dangerous floater' for the bulk of his career - his best tennis is capable of beating lots of the top 20, but he just isn't consistent enough to produce it week to week.

The first three months of 2026 have been a perfect illustration of this.

Marozsan opened the year by making the semi-finals of Auckland and third round of the Australian Open. Above average results for someone outside the top 40.

However, Marozsan has since lost five of his next six matches - including a hugely disappointing defeat to Roberto Bautista Agut in Indian Wells last week in the first round.

The Hungarian has played well in Miami previously, making the quarter-finals on his tournament debut in 2024 - beating de Minaur and Holger Rune along the way.
