Jannik Sinner sets his sights on a second Miami title as he faces Frances Tiafoe in the quarter-finals, aiming for the prestigious Sunshine Double, last claimed by Roger Federer in 2017. Sinner is a formidable opponent with a striking record against players ranked 20 or below, having won 96 of his last 98 matches in that category. Jannik Sinner vs Frances Tiafoe Tips, Prediction & Live Stream

Jannik Sinner continues his bid for a second Miami title and first career Sunshine Double when he comes up against the resurgent Frances Tiafoe in the quarter-finals on Thursday.

It was a slow start to the season for Sinner, but all of a sudden he's rolling again, taking out the Indian Wells Masters earlier this month and staying on track here to become just the eighth man and first since Roger Federer in 2017 to capture the Sunshine Double. The Italian remains the heavy favourite in Miami following Carlos Alcaraz's shock loss to Seb Korda and it will take a monumental performance to stop him from here.

Sinner has won 96 of his last 98 matches vs players ranked No. 20 or below - and one of those defeats was via retirement. Good luck, Tiafoe.

No, but seriously, Tiafoe is back playing some great tennis after a difficult 2025, but Sinner is just a completely different beast. His confidence is back (not that it ever really left) and his record against this calibre of player speaks for itself. I'll be backing Sinner to cover a -5.5 line.
  • Sinner has won 96 of his last 98 matches vs players ranked 20 or lower
  • Sinner has covered a -5.5 line in five of his last seven matches vs players in that bracket
  • Sinner has won 22 of his 25 previous matches in Miami
  • Sinner has won his last six Masters 1000 quarter-finals, covering a -5.5 line in five
  • Tiafoe has a 0-7 record vs top two players

Jannik Sinner Form Analysis

  • 2026 Record: 16-2
  • ATP Miami Record: 22-3
  • Current Ranking: No. 2
  • Career-High Ranking: No. 1 (2024)

It was a relatively tough start to the season for Sinner, but he's found his way now and looks destined for the Sunshine Double.

Sinner struggled down under and was eventually eliminated in the Australian Open semi-finals by Novak Djokovic, while he also suffered a shock loss to Jakub Mensik in the Doha quarter-finals.

However, Sinner has found his form again this month, claiming his first Indian Wells title with a win over Daniil Medvedev in the final before easing into the last eight in Miami.

Sinner crushed Damir Dzumhur and Corentin Moutet in straight sets, but was made to work harder against Alex Michelsen, coming back from 3-5 down in the second set to prevail 7-5 7-6(4).

“I’m someone that likes to play tie-breaks, or at 4-4, 5-5,” Sinner said post-match. “I try to raise my level in the most important moments and that for sure helped me today… I’m very happy that I managed to win today."

Frances Tiafoe Form Analysis

  • 2026 Record: 15-6
  • ATP Miami Record: 17-8
  • Current Ranking: No. 20
  • Career-High Ranking: No. 10 (2023)

Tiafoe tumbled down the rankings last year, but has his drive, focus and motivation back as he looks to claw back towards the top 10 in 2026.

It's been a consistent season for Tiafoe and he's improving with each tournament.

The 28-year-old made the third round of the Australian Open before a quarter-final run in Delray Beach and a runner-up showing in Acapulco, going down to Flavio Cobolli.

Tiafoe went on to make the R16 at Indian Wells (lost to Zverev) before reaching a second Miami quarter-final this tournament.

The American saved two match points against defending champion Jakub Mensik before recovering from 4-4, 0-40 in the deciding set against Terence Atmane in the R16 to prevail 6-4 1-6 6-4.
