Belmont Roughie Tip
Belmont Roughie - Race 7 No. 11 Prince Of Dala
Prince Of Dala faces his toughest test to date in the Belmont Guineas, and the key question is whether he can maintain his level deep into a lengthy first campaign.
That said, the Simon Miller-trained gelding shapes as a horse with a bright future and may ultimately prove one of the best prospects to emerge from this year's edition of the race.
His form has continued to improve with racing, progressing from a brave debut win at Pinjarra to a dominant Class 1 triumph before bouncing back from a luckless Belmont defeat with another victory over seven furlongs on June 10.
A strong, athletic type who appears to appreciate galloping room, Prince Of Dala draws to receive every chance under Brad Parnham and looks over the odds at an each-way quote.
Flemington Roughie Tip
Flemington Roughie - Race 7 No. 11 Contemporary
Contemporary has not been far away in stronger company than this and could be worth another chance at a healthy price.
The Lindsey Smith-trained galloper resumed in a quality edition of the Hareeba Stakes before contesting the Wangoom Handicap, where the result was better than it appears on paper.
His latest effort in the Golden Topaz was only fair, although that came after a month between runs and he now drops into what looks his most suitable assignment of the campaign.
The former Godolphin runner has placed twice down the Flemington straight, handles all track conditions and profiles as the type who can improve sharply in an open race.
Ipswich Roughie Tip
Ipswich Roughie - Race 8 No. 2 Cifrado
There is no denying the weight assignment is a challenge, but Cifrado continues to race in excellent form and remains attractively priced.
The Toowoomba galloper returned to his best this preparation with a Listed victory on the Gold Coast before going within a neck of adding a Group 3 success in the BRC Sprint.
Connections have kept him ticking over with a trial since that May 23 performance, suggesting he remains on target for another bold showing.
Just as importantly, Cifrado has already proven himself at Ipswich, recording a win and a second from two starts at the circuit, which can be a significant advantage on this unique track.
Morphettville Roughie Tip
Morphettville Roughie - Race 9 No. 1 Miso
Miso looks one of the more intriguing runners on the Morphettville program given the company he has been keeping this campaign.
The seven-year-old has opened his preparation in a pair of Benchmark 78 contests and now finds a much more suitable race on paper.
There was plenty of merit in both performances, particularly his latest second placing behind Sir Now, where he produced the fastest closing sectionals of the meeting.
That form was franked when Sir Now won again at Murray Bridge last weekend, and with a recent trial under his belt, Miso appeals as a genuine each-way chance third-up.
Randwick Roughie Tip
Randwick Roughie - Race 10 No. 8 Super Norwest
Super Norwest has been overlooked in early markets despite bringing some strong form references into the final event at Randwick.
The mare won back-to-back Benchmark 78 contests at this level over the summer and has already proven herself at seven furlongs.
Her first two runs this preparation have been better than they look on paper, particularly the latest when covering ground throughout on a Heavy 9 track and still finishing less than two lengths from the winner.
Back onto firmer footing and with Braith Nock's claim reducing the impost, Super Norwest looks capable of outrunning her quote in the finale.
