The Winx Stakes is the first Group 1 of the Australian racing season, with the 1400m weight-for-age feature to be run at Randwick on Saturday, August 22.
The race has become synonymous with Chris Waller, whose champion mare Winx won it twice before it was renamed in her honour, then claimed the inaugural edition as both a Group 1 and the Winx Stakes in 2018.
Waller has prepared four of the past six winners, including the last three, and the $1.45 favourite with Unibet Australia, Autumn Glow, is well placed to extend that record.
The Autumn Sun mare won her first 11 starts before suffering her first defeat as a $1.30 favourite in the Queen Elizabeth Stakes over 2000m.
She is unbeaten over the Randwick 1400m, having resumed with victory in the Apollo Stakes in February.
Sheza Alibi has shortened into $3.70 and shapes as the major wildcard in the market after being nominated for the Winx Stakes, despite the Memsie Stakes at Caulfield on August 29 having previously appeared her likely first-up target.
The Peter Moody and Katherine Coleman-trained mare has won her last five starts, culminating her autumn campaign with dominant Group 1 victories in the Randwick Guineas and Doncaster Mile.
Aeliana, an $11 chance, finished runner-up in the Apollo Stakes before getting closer to Autumn Glow when second in the Verry Elleegant Stakes, then ended her autumn campaign with Group 1 wins in the Ranvet Stakes and Tancred Stakes.
Angel Capital, Fangirl and Gringotts are all quoted at $13.
Angel Capital resumed with a third behind Ninja in the Missile Stakes on August 8 after being slow away and finding trouble in running.
Fangirl is being prepared specifically for another tilt at the race she won in 2023, with the multiple Group 1-winning mare boasting a strong fresh record and terrific Randwick statistics.
Gringotts also appears ready to resume after an impressive Warwick Farm trial victory on August 5, defeating Beiwacht by more than three lengths in his second public hit-out of the winter.
Beiwacht and Lady Shenandoah are next at $15, with both gallopers multiple Group 1 winners, while dual Group 1 winner Autumn Boy is quoted at $21.

Winx Stakes Winners
The Winx Stakes, registered as the Warwick Stakes, is the first Group 1 race of the Australian racing season and is run over 1400m under weight-for-age conditions at Royal Randwick.
The feature was renamed the Winx Stakes in 2018 in honour of champion mare Winx, who won the race three consecutive times from 2016 to 2018.
Chris Waller has prepared nine winners of the race since 2010, including four of the past six.
The most recent winners are Fangirl in 2023 and Via Sistina, who claimed back-to-back editions in 2024 and 2025.
