Belmont Roughie Tip
Belmont Roughie - Race 8 No. 5 Desert Nymph
A switch in circuits is certainly in her favour this Saturday, as Desert Nymph has a terrific overall record at Belmont.
From 11 starts at Belmont, the Michele Hagley-trained galloper has recorded five wins, three seconds, two thirds, and a fourth.
She was ticking over nicely early in the prep, with a solid fresh effort before just peaking late on her chase second-up over 1200m.
Desert Nymph didn't produce on the seven day back-up and with the tongue tie now on, that could explain the recent failure (choked down).
Eagle Farm Roughie Tip
Eagle Farm Roughie - Race 3 No. 13 Old Song
She's building into the prep well, with two good chasing efforts recorded over a mile and the rise in distance suits third-up.
While bolters odds are available for this assignment, Old Song hasn't been despised in the market via her two prior winter runs.
She's generally thereabouts and the mare was a Saturday metro winner over this trip when contesting a similar race last spring.
Old Song often needs favours due to her racing pattern, but she appears to be working to towards a peak performance.
Moonee Valley Roughie Tip
Moonee Valley Roughie - Race 4 No. 8 Morrissette
She's been consistent since joining the Reece Goodwin stable last spring, with three victories recorded for the new yard.
That includes a last start triumph when denying Bring Forth and the prior Caulfield form through that runner-up reads quite well.
Two starts back, she was second to She Said (won her next two), where Morrissette covered ground and gave 4kg to the winner.
While this is a rise in grade to a BM78, it's not a vintage Saturday affair and she carries 5kg less from her August 3 victory.
Morphettville Roughie Tip
Morphettville Roughie - Race 9 No. 7 Bad Detective
He can improve from the August 9 return, where Bad Detective was beaten a long way out after engaging in an early speed battle.
A softer draw in his favour second-up, where the gelding will also strip and the prospect of firmer ground is another positive.
The lightly raced five-year-old showed potential in his first five appearances, which includes a dominant win on the Parks circuit.
Bad Detective drops in grade and while he's perhaps a run short of a peak, he's a much better horse than what we saw a fortnight ago.
Randwick Roughie Tip
Randwick Roughie - Race 5 No. 6 Belvedere Boys
His Grafton Cup run was too bad to be true and Belvedere Boys was in the market when third-up for that Listed country feature.
The son of Maurice worked well in a subsequent trial, while his prior form was very consistent (stakes placed in Sydney second-up).
Belvedere Boys is more effective on rain affected tracks and this is the wettest deck he's seen since taking out Country Classic last spring.
He absolutely bolted via only previous try on heavy ground, which came at Randwick and the gelding can atone here.
