Eagle Farm Best Bet - Race 1 No. 2 Hi Dubai

Ciaron Maher’s representative showed good form in Sydney earlier this prep, including when resuming with a third in a 1000m Benchmark 78 handicap at Randwick in May.

The mare went on to fill the same position when beaten in a blanket finish for a similar contest held over the same track/trip the following month.

Both of those efforts came in wet conditions, with the six-year-old breaking through for her first win of 2025 when upped to 1100m at Rosehill early last month.

Hi Dubai got home by a narrow margin when jumping from an inside barrier in a Benchmark 78 handicap on that occasion.

The daughter of Highland Reel failed to shine when finishing only eighth in an 1100m Benchmark 88 handicap at Randwick on her most recent start, however.

A change of tactics saw the mare race from mid-division that day and with a return to racing prominently expected here, she is taken to salute in the opener.

Trackside With Ricky Ponting Benchmark 78 Handicap Tips (Race 3)

Eagle Farm Roughie - Race 3 No. 7 Mistressofillusion

The five-year-old registered some solid efforts in defeat last prep, including when finishing runner-up twice.

The second of those efforts saw her beaten less than a length when competing in a 2400m Benchmark 80 handicap here in April.

The grey raced off a low weight that day and she was spelled following a sixth over 2200m at Gold Coast the following month.

While the mare could finish only ninth here on her return to action a month ago, it’s of note that the 1800m distance was on the sharp side for her that day.

The step up to 2040m at Doomben brought about improvement racing second-up, with Mistressofillusion going on to score by half-a-length in a Class 3 handicap.

Both of those efforts came on good going, however, the softer surface expected here is no issue and the strong finishing Irish-bred may prove capable of delivering back-to-back victories.

Eagle Farm Value Bet - Race 6 No. 2 Chrysaor

The highest earner in the field, Chrysaor showed good form at a higher level last prep, including when fourth in a Group 2 at Newcastle in November.

He pick was beaten less than two lengths over 1300m that day and went on to end that prep with a good third in the Listed Magic Millions Cup at Gold Coast in January.

While unable to score in five starts this time around, he did deliver a solid fourth in a similar race to this over the course and distance last month.

The son of Better Than Ready was beaten just under four-and-a-half-lengths when racing on a soft surface on that occasion.

Chrysaor was hampered at the 500m mark when racing on a Soft 6 track that day and he can be forgiven a below par effort when dropped to 1400m here subsequently.

The forecast rain shouldn’t pose an issue to Chris Waller’s gelding, who looks value to register a win.

Eagle Farm Next Best Bet - Race 9 No. 6 Town Crier

Matt Hoysted’s gelding registered two wins and a third-place finish from his three starts last prep.

The second of those wins saw him get home by a narrow margin when taking out a 1200m Class 4 Plate at the Gold Coast in March.

Town Crier raced on a sound surface that day and he went on to deliver a solid third-place finish in a wet track Class 5 handicap at Doomben the following month.

That Doomben effort marked the gelding’s final start last prep and he caught the eye when beaten just over half-a-length here on his return to action.

He finished fourth in a Benchmark 78 handicap held on a Soft 5 track when racing from the front that day.

The form of that event is working out well, with the third, fifth, sixth and seventh all going on to win next time and with improvement expected, Town Crier looks up to winning second-up.
