EAGLE FARM
Race 8 - Ligulate (third): It was a solid bounce back to form for this seven-year-old, getting two things in his favour that he has not had all prep; a good track along with the mile. Sticking to the inside, he really stuck to his guns when races have gotten away from him this prep and we saw over the summer of last year, that once he finds form he can hold it.
Race 9 - Tara Jasmine (second): The only one in the race to make up ground in a race dominated by those near the speed, she looked well and truly out of contention on the bend, but once clear of horses to her outside, she picked herself up nicely. The key is a genuine tempo, while with a win and two placings from her last three starts, we do not want to jump off a mare in form.
FLEMINGTON
Race 4 - Yearning (seventh): This is a mare that is looking for two things, the Flemington mile and a wider gate that allows her to build into her races with all the momentum. Barrier one proved detrimental as she was easing over heels for the first 300m of the straight and raced in restricted room for the last 200m. Hoping she stays four-weeks between runs as she is a mare best kept fresh.
KALGOORLIE
Race 3 - Mexi Cola (third): Got shuffled back further than they'd have liked on settling and stepping to 1600m for the first time this campaign, he may have just needed this run. Strong effort nonetheless, with Mexi Cola the only off-speed runner to make an impression and at 34.57, has recorded easily the fastest last 600m of the race. Looks ready to win.
Race 9 - Market Stryke (fourth): Arguably wins if he gets the gap 100m earlier, but being only first-up and resuming at 1400m, there's improvement with this four-year-old, who has finished outside of the money for the first time in his career. A half-brother to two stakes winners (Gold Broker and Market Ruler), he can work through the lower grades.
MORPHETTVILLE
Race 6 - Outpost (fourth): He made our blackbook file after an unlucky defeat first-up, while his fortunes were no better here. Was travelling strongly on the turn from the box-seat and approaching the 300m, was kept in a pocket by the eventual winner. Wins easily if he gets that first gap (also denied a run by Sparkup). Can drop in grade with a low rating.
Race 7 - Morty (fourth): This super honest campaigner from the Shayne Cahill yard generally takes a few runs to hit his straps, so resuming over 1550m, he may be more forward early this prep. He initially had the back of the winner (Yuri Royale), who had the better turn-of-foot initially, but Morty was able to pick up again and find the line strongly.
RANDWICK
Race 9 - Realm Of Flowers (third): Was unlucky on a Sydney Cup path last year, which she followed up with a Ramsden romp, but unfortunately didn't come up that spring. Backed-up a solid Tatts Cup showing with an enormous Metrop performance here, sitting three-wide the trip and in another two strides, she wins. A Melbourne Cup smoky?
