Autumn Glow and Sheza Alibi are two of the most exciting gallopers in the country, with the pair sharing favouritism for the 2026 Epsom Handicap at $4.50 with Unibet Australia.

After winning her first 11 starts, Autumn Glow tasted defeat for the first time when stepping up to 2000m in the Queen Elizabeth Stakes. However, her record over shorter trips had been faultless, and her first Group 1 victory came in the 2025 edition of the Epsom Handicap.

Sheza Alibi has continued to furnish with racing, winning her last six starts, the latest a dominant Group 1 victory over 1600m at Randwick in the Doncaster Mile. She carried just 49kg in that success and was well treated at the weights.

Prior to that, she made light work of Autumn Boy, who was also runner-up in the Doncaster Mile. The Chris Waller-trained galloper sits on the third line of betting at $8.

Autumn Boy brought up his second Group 1 victory when stretched to 2000m in the Rosehill Guineas, having claimed his first at the highest level in the Caulfield Guineas during the spring of his three-year-old season.

Well Written ($11) is an unbeaten New Zealand-based galloper, with all six of her victories coming between 1200m and 1600m.

Her latest success was a narrow win in The Kiwi, which followed a dominant six-length romp in the Karaka Million 3YO Classic.

Epsom Handicap Winners

The Epsom Handicap is one of Sydney's premier spring races, with a rich history dating back more than 150 years. First run in 1863, the Group 1 feature has become a cornerstone of the Sydney Spring Carnival and remains one of Australia's most coveted handicap contests.

Contested over 1600m for the vast majority of its existence, the Epsom Handicap is regarded as one of the nation's ultimate tests for milers. The only exception came during a brief five-year period when the race was run over 1800m before reverting to its traditional distance.

Named in honour of England's famous Epsom Downs Racecourse, the event has consistently attracted elite fields and produced some of the sport's most memorable winners. Its honour roll features legendary gallopers such as Nightmarch, Sky High, Imposing, Super Impose and the great Winx.

The race continues to hold a special place on the Australian racing calendar, often bringing together proven Group 1 performers and emerging stars looking to stamp their authority on the spring.

Recent editions have been won by Rediener (2023), Ceolwulf (2024) and Autumn Glow (2025), with Autumn Glow becoming the latest high-class performer to etch her name into Epsom Handicap history.
