Sydney’s leading three-year-old fillies come together over the Randwick mile on Saturday, October 3, when the Group 1 Flight Stakes is contested under set-weight conditions.

Chayan heads early betting at $6 with Ladbrokes after establishing herself among the better juvenile fillies during the autumn.

The Annabel and Rob Archibald-trained filly won the Group 2 Reisling Stakes over 1200m at Randwick in March, defeating Agrarian Girl by three lengths, before finishing eighth in the Golden Slipper.

Purchased for a record $5.6 million at the Inglis Chairman’s Sale in May, Chayan is being aimed towards Sydney’s Princess Series, with the Flight Stakes firmly on the radar for her spring campaign.

Satin Serenade and Satono Glow share the second line of betting at $8.

Satin Serenade has shown plenty of promise in limited racing, with the Chris Waller-trained filly most recently finishing runner-up to Miss Scandal at Canterbury on June 8.

Satono Glow brings proven stakes form into the spring after producing a dominant victory in the Group 3 Thoroughbred Breeders Stakes at Flemington in March.

The John O’Shea and Tom Charlton-trained filly then stepped up again in the Group 2 Percy Sykes Stakes at Randwick, finishing fourth behind Cherry Bomshell in her final autumn appearance.

Flight Stakes Winners

The Flight Stakes is the premier three-year-old fillies race of the Sydney Spring Carnival, with the Group 1 feature contested over 1600m at Royal Randwick.

First run in 1947, the race was elevated to Group 1 status in 1985 and has developed into one of the defining races for three-year-old fillies during the early spring.

Its honour roll features some of the outstanding fillies and mares of the modern era, including Sunline, Samantha Miss, More Joyous and Guelph, underlining the quality traditionally required to win the Randwick mile.

The Flight Stakes also serves as the culmination of Sydney's Princess Series, making it a key target for the leading fillies progressing through the spring.

The most recent winners are Tropical Squall in 2023, Lady Shenandoah in 2024 and Apocalyptic, who claimed the 2025 edition.
