NFL Week 1 Best Bets - Giant Upset on the Cards
The NFL 2026 Season Week 1 sees sharp analysis on prime matchups to uncover value bets. The Giants (+2.5) are favored over a traditionally slow-starting Cowboys offense, while the Packers (+1.5) offer upside over a Vikings squad adapting to a new quarterback. James Cook is tipped for a big ground game against Houston, and the value underdog pick is the Broncos (+2.5) due to their defense and KC's offensive question marks. Bettors are advised to lean on pattern, personnel changes, and smart angles for early wins.
- Giants +2.5 favored due to Prescott's consistent Week 1 struggles.
- Packers +1.5 tipped as Vikings adjust to new QB; expect a tight, low-scoring clash.
- James Cook projected for 70.5+ rushing yards; Broncos +2.5 is a strong underdog play vs the Chiefs.

Dallas Cowboys @ New York Giants
Pick: Giants +2.5

Four straight openers. That's how many times Dak Prescott has turned in a passing performance well below his season norms with 188, 179, 143, and 134 yards respectively. That's not a slump, that's a pattern. Week 1 has been brutal for Prescott statistically, and he's now walking into a John Harbaugh-coached Giants defence that has reportedly brought a harder, more physical identity into camp immediately.
The Cowboys' defence was described as one of the worst in the league through 2025 under the prior regime, which keeps this from being a comfortable lean. But the Prescott Week 1 trend is too consistent to ignore, and the Giants took Dallas down last year to snap a nine-game drought so this team knows how to beat them.
Green Bay Packers @ Minnesota Vikings
Pick: Packers +1.5
18+ only. T&Cs apply
Kyler Murray is a genuine weapon, but he's brand new to this offence. New system, new teammates, and the Week 1 growing pains for a quarterback learning on the fly are real and limited scoring from the Vikings passing attack in the opener is grounded in that logic. Meanwhile, Green Bay's pass rush is compromised with Micah Parsons not fully healed and Rashan Gary gone, but Minnesota's edge isn't dramatically better at pressuring the Packers' QB either.
This is essentially a low-scoring game where Green Bay's offence edges a Vikings unit that hasn't yet found its rhythm under Murray. The matchup of Green Bay's offence versus Minnesota's defence is a compelling spot and that directional lean is enough to work with here.
Buffalo Bills @ Houston Texans
Pick: James Cook over 70.5 Rush Yards
The dabble.com.au referral code is BETSAU. 18+. T&Cs apply.
James Cook rushed for 100+ yards against Houston last year, led the entire NFL in rushing yards through 2025 and averaged better than 5 yards per carry on the season. Houston's secondary is tough against the pass, their pass coverage was a major factor in why they sacked Josh Allen a career-high eight times in their previous meeting, with Allen forced to hold the ball longer than usual.
Joe Brady debuting as a head coach while still calling plays is an added variable. If Allen is under pressure early from Danielle Hunter and Will Anderson Jr. again, Buffalo's path of least resistance is handing it to Cook and taking what the defence gives on the ground. He's the value focal point of this game.
Denver Broncos @ Kansas City Chiefs
Pick: Broncos +2.5

The numbers-first angle here actually has some legs, even stripped of the comedy. Patrick Mahomes is returning from ACL surgery. Bo Nix is returning from a foot injury. Two quarterbacks with durability and sharpness questions, but Denver's secondary returns all five starters plus the reigning Defensive Player of the Year. Kansas City let pass-catchers walk in the off-season and didn't replace them and remember, the aerial attack was already underperforming before the roster thinned further.
Here we have two rusty QBs, Denver with the better secondary and a more intact supporting cast which all points toward the Broncos as a genuine value play with the Broncos opening as the Underdog.
