Moonee Valley Blackbook: Saturday, August 23

Race 4 - Bur Dubai (2nd): Bur Dubai was in need of the run when resuming over 1600m under 62kg, and he took natural improvement into this second-up effort.

Chasing a fit, all-the-way winner in Navy King, he stuck on honestly despite conceding 5kg to the victor, and the run suggests he’s building nicely.

Both of his career wins have come over 2500m, including a third-up success in his first Australian campaign, so this 2040m outing should bring him on again.

With added fitness and a rise in trip, he looks capable of striking soon.
Race 6 - Lincoln Rocks (6th): The seven-year-old only warmed up late in his fresh tilt, but the effort was encouraging given he typically improves with distance.

His two most recent wins have come over longer journeys, and while his Sydney form has been somewhat mixed, he has been far more reliable racing in the anti-clockwise direction.

This was in fact his first run in Victoria where he failed to finish in the money, so he’s worth another look as he stretches out.

Prince Eric is also a galloper to keep in mind from this event, producing the equal-fastest final 200m of the race and finishing off strongly when resuming

Like Lincoln Rocks, he looks set to progress with more fitness and extra ground.
Race 9 - Robrick (6th): Sent out at 25/1, Robrick’s midfield finish was better than it looked on paper and should set him up well for his next run at a price.

The Price & Kent (Jnr) gelding has long hinted at untapped ability despite being frustrating for punters, and he showed he can be competitive at this level when things fall his way.

From a wide gate, he was forced to settle further back than ideal and at 200m, he was briefly held up.

With a kinder draw and cleaner run, the son of Invader might well have finished in the first three or four, making him one to follow into his next outing.
