Ascot Roughie Tip

Ascot Roughie - Race 3 No. 3 Emerald Trader

He's lightly raced for a seven-year-old and Emerald Trader often comes to hand early, with a win and two thirds from five fresh runs.

1500m is a good starting point for the Lynette Watson-trained galloper, who returned with a third-of-eight finish first-up last autumn.

That event was taken out by Fast Flicker (won three metro races since then) and Emerald Trader was thereabouts for most of the prep.

Among the highlights was a second to Antique Miss (subsequent Listed winner) and the only flop was on heavy ground over a staying trip.

Bendigo Roughie Tip

Bendigo Roughie - Race 4 No. 1 Prince Eric

Prince Eric has been competitive in all four Australian outings under Archie Alexander and he's been single figure odds every time.

The four-year-old is now a double figure quote despite finding his easiest race Down Under, albeit he has to overcome a wide draw.

First-up, he ran the fastest last 800m/600m and 400m of the Echuca Cup, and that form suggests that this BM74 should be within reach.

He gets relief after the 3kg claim and in a higher benchmark second-up last prep, Prince Eric placed at Ballarat when carrying 1kg more.

Doomben Roughie Tip

Doomben Roughie - Race 4 No. 10 Misting

1200m proved too sharp via her first two outings, but Misting showed enough before breaking through over a mile at start three.

There were excuses for her start four failure, where the three-year-old pulled up lame and she was spelled after that October 12 attempt.

She was an eye-catcher from back in the field via a leader-dominated race fresh and the saddle slipped in the run via that return.

It's a long way out, but Misting is a classy filly with upside and she could David Vandyke's QLD Oaks filly if she can progress this campaign.

Morphettville Roughie Tip

Morphettville Roughie - Race 8 No. 16 Horizons

An Australian Oaks came too soon for Horizons, with the Richard & Will Freedman-trained filly now on Australasian Oaks path in Adelaide.

The Autumn Sun fillies started to hit their straps around 12 months ago in these three-year-old staying features and she's ticking over okay.

Horizons simply lacked the turn-of-foot via her anti-clockwise debut here on March 29, but she was honest in fourth over 1600m.

Todd Pannell sticks with Horizons for the Auraria Stakes, where she'll be suited up to 1800m and the filly is still on upwards spiral.

Randwick Roughie Tip

Randwick Roughie - Race 10 No. 10 Infancy

This Australian Bloodstock sprinter is a forgotten runner in early markets despite recording a stakes win at Randwick last autumn.

Infancy should've won again in the PJ Bell Stakes and the mare was in the worst going fresh last campaign over this track/trip.

Off their Toy Show clash, she shouldn't be such long odds vs Commemorative and Lady Laguna (beat the latter home in that race).

Infancy ran into some handy sprinters in Melbourne at the back-end of spring and she's completed three trials ahead of this return.
