Coonabarabran Tips October 25

Edwards Air Conditioning And Refrigeration & Daikin Showcase Benchmark 66 Handicap Tips (Race 3)

Coonabarabran Best Bet - Race 3 No. 7 Moon Zone

Three wins since the beginning of July underline the excellent form Moon Zone has produced in recent months, with the consistent mare looking well placed to add another victory when making her Coonabarabran debut on Sunday.

The six-year-old scored narrowly over 1300m at Dubbo on her penultimate appearance, and that performance has since been strengthened by the runner-up returning to win at their next start.

A close third in Benchmark 66 company at Coonamble a fortnight ago confirmed she remains in excellent order, with both recent performances coming on Good ground and demonstrating her ability to remain competitive against similar opposition.

Although the daughter of Stratum Star has also won on rain-affected surfaces, Sunday's conditions look suitable, while previous victories from double-figure barriers and her tactical versatility suggest the outside draw should not prove an insurmountable obstacle.

Regular rider Zoe Hunt retains the mount, and with Moon Zone racing consistently, proven at this level and capable of adapting to different race patterns, she looks the leading chance to continue her winning campaign.

Phong Nguyen Memorial Super Maiden Handicap Tips (Race 4)

Coonabarabran Next Best Bet - Race 4 No. 5 Dirty Dani

A maiden breakthrough looks close for Dirty Dani, who has finished in the first three in three of her four career appearances and returned from a spell with an encouraging performance at Port Macquarie earlier this month.

The Allan Kehoe-trained mare was beaten less than a length when third over 1000m on rain-affected ground, racing prominently throughout and suggesting she had returned in good order following her break.

Quicker conditions should present no concerns, with both placings from her previous campaign coming on Good 4 surfaces, while her earlier performances over 1100m provide encouragement that Sunday's rise in distance will suit.

The daughter of Merchant Navy has demonstrated enough tactical speed to take up a forward position, although the wide barrier presents a challenge and will require Jake Pracey-Holmes to make the right decisions in the early stages.

An experienced rider with a good record at Coonabarabran, Pracey-Holmes looks a suitable booking for a lightly raced mare with scope for improvement, and Dirty Dani gets an excellent opportunity to shed her maiden status.

Northwest Equestrian Expo Cup Day Showcase Sprint Tips (Race 6)

Coonabarabran Value Bet - Race 6 No. 4 Castlebar Road

A return to winning form would come as no surprise from Castlebar Road, with the experienced sprinter having registered two victories during August and subsequently produced competitive efforts in stronger company.

The latest of those wins came over 1120m at Dubbo on Heavy ground, while the son of Laguna De Bay has performed well in two of his three appearances since, including a runner-up finish over Sunday's distance at Dubbo.

Although beaten just under four lengths on that occasion, he was far from disgraced at generous odds, and his subsequent below-par performance in Benchmark 82 company at Tamworth looks worth overlooking as he returns to a more suitable assignment.

Barrier five provides a favourable starting point for the Jane Clement-trained gelding, while Gabrielle Johnston reunites with Castlebar Road after partnering him to both August victories.

His only previous appearance at Coonabarabran came in this race two years ago, when he raced prominently before being overwhelmed late, and with conditions appearing suitable for another positive ride, the veteran looks a value chance to record his 11th career success.

Coonabarabran Feature Bet - Race 7 No. 8 Kaihoko

An overdue return to the winner's stall could be on the cards for Kaihoko, who has performed with credit in all three appearances this preparation and arrives at Sunday's Coonabarabran Cup following an encouraging placing in stronger company.

The Colt Prosser-trained gelding was beaten just half a length when third in the Hastings Cup over 1500m at Port Macquarie earlier this month, settling midfield from barrier eight before finishing strongly.

That performance followed consecutive fifth-place finishes over 1200m, with the rise in distance bringing an immediate improvement, and Sunday's 1600m assignment looks particularly suitable given he has already won over the trip.

The son of Dundeel is effective on both Good and Soft surfaces, so any unexpected deterioration in the track should not present a concern, while barrier seven gives connections several options regarding his settling position.

Luke Rolls knows the six-year-old well and retains the ride, with Kaihoko now approaching peak fitness, suited by the distance and well placed to record his first victory since February last year.
