Sale Tips October 25

Ladbrokes Mega Multi BM66 Handicap Tips (Race 4)

Sale Value Bet - Race 4 No. 6 Wounder

A change of scenery could be the key for Wounder, with the New Zealand-bred mare joining Andrew Perdon's stable after putting together a consistent run of form in Queensland.

The five-year-old followed an August victory at Doomben with four consecutive top-three finishes, including two subsequent appearances at the Brisbane venue, most recently when competing in Class 2 company earlier this month.

Beaten less than two lengths over 1660m on that occasion, she brings a useful form reference into Sunday's assignment after fourth-placed Peccavi franked the result with a victory at Eagle Farm on Wednesday.

Although both career wins have come on Good ground, the daughter of Contributer has also placed on rain-affected surfaces, suggesting the forecast Soft conditions should pose no major concerns.

Her strongest performances have generally come over further, but an inside draw and the drop from metropolitan company provide an attractive setup for Wounder to make a winning start for her new trainer.

Ladbrokes Sale Cup (Listed) Tips (Race 7)

Sale Feature Bet - Race 7 No. 8 El Rocko

A successful title defence is firmly within reach for El Rocko, with last year's Sale Cup winner returning to familiar territory after two runs this preparation.

The veteran took an encouraging step forward when sixth in the Group 3 Harry White Stakes at Caulfield last weekend, finishing less than four lengths from the winner after resuming over an unsuitable 1200m at Cranbourne just eight days earlier.

Both performances came on Good surfaces, and the anticipated return to rain-affected ground is particularly appealing for a gelding who has consistently produced some of his strongest form under testing conditions.

Sunday's rise in distance is another positive, while barrier three should allow the son of Fastnet Rock to settle prominently and enjoy an economical passage in a race where his established pattern could prove advantageous.

Jamie Mott reunites with the John McArdle-trained gelding after partnering him to victory in this event 12 months ago, and with the conditions falling into place, the combination looks capable of completing back-to-back Sale Cup triumphs.

Sale Best Bet - Race 8 No. 8 Bel Mezyaan

A return in this company looks an excellent opportunity for Bel Mezyaan, whose previous preparation included a narrow second in the Listed Bendigo Guineas at the beginning of May.

The Jerome Hunter-trained gelding was beaten less than half a length over 1400m on that occasion before remaining competitive in stronger metropolitan company, including a fourth in a 1600m Quality at Flemington during June.

There was more merit in that performance than the two-and-a-half-length margin suggests, with the four-year-old encountering interference at a crucial stage, while his earlier form demonstrates an ability to handle varying track conditions.

Two encouraging jump-outs have provided a suitable foundation for Sunday's return, including a recent Mornington success that suggested the gelding has come back in excellent order.

Daniel Stackhouse takes the ride for the first time, and with Bel Mezyaan generally settling off the speed before finishing strongly, his proven ability in better company makes him the standout selection in this Melbourne Cup Country Final heat.

Ladbrokes Place Extra BM70 Handicap Tips (Race 9)

Sale Next Best Bet - Race 9 No. 10 Cardamom

A fresh start has previously brought out the best in Cardamom, with the lightly raced mare already boasting two victories from five appearances and a particularly encouraging record on rain-affected ground.

Her previous preparation opened with a convincing Class 1 success over 1400m at Cranbourne, where she finished more than a length clear, before progressing through the campaign and narrowly missing victory at Sandown two starts later.

Both performances came on Soft tracks, and there was plenty to like about the Sandown defeat after she was held up at an important stage before working home strongly to claim second.

The mare has since prepared for her return with jump-outs, most recently finishing runner-up at Cranbourne, while the drop in distance should not present a major concern given her likely conservative settling position.

Although drawn wide, Cardamom should have the opportunity to find her rhythm towards the rear before building into the race, and with a favourable forecast surface and a stable capable of producing winners at Sale, she looks well placed to resume successfully.
