The next generation of Western Australian racing talent steps into the spotlight at Ascot on Saturday, October 24, with the Listed Belgravia Stakes providing an early spring test for the state's leading three-year-olds ahead of the Perth Summer Racing Carnival.
A ten-race program offers plenty beyond the feature, with several progressive gallopers looking to extend winning sequences, established performers returning from spells and a handful of overlooked runners capable of improving sharply under more favourable circumstances.

Ascot Tips October 24
Tabtouch - Westspeed Platinum Series Ht1 Tips (Race 2)
Ascot Value Bet - Race 2 No. 6 My Danny Boy
A more conservative approach has been adopted with My Danny Boy this preparation, with the four-year-old ridden quietly in his September 29 Belmont trial before producing an encouraging return at Bunbury on October 7, suggesting connections are keen to see him settle and finish off his races.
The son of Playing God carried 59.5kg in that first-up assignment and was again ridden patiently, making good ground along the inside and recording the fastest final 200m of the contest when runner-up behind Angel Express, a promising filly who was receiving 3.5kg and had arrived off a debut victory before performing respectably in Saturday company last week.
There are several strong references throughout My Danny Boy's three-year-old campaign, including a debut second behind A Summer Fling, who subsequently won at Belmont and earned a stakes placing, while his April 29 runner-up finish behind Bassett Hound also reads particularly well given that galloper's subsequent rise through the grades.
He made the most of a suitable opportunity when breaking through second-up at Pinjarra in May before producing a competitive third at Belmont, eventually coming to the end of his campaign in June, and his overall profile suggests he could appreciate racing over slightly longer distances as he matures.
With just one trial and a race-day appearance behind him this preparation, there should be further improvement to come second-up, while the 3.5kg weight reduction to 56kg and barrier three give Jarrad Noske the option to settle closer, making My Danny Boy an each-way prospect in the second at Ascot.
Brent Maas Handicap Tips (Race 4)
Ascot Best Bet - Race 4 No. 2 Streamlined
Streamlined looks a typical progressive Bob Peters-owned middle-distance prospect capable of working through the grades, with the Michael Grantham-trained gelding already showing considerable promise in his lightly raced career and arriving on Saturday chasing a third victory from four starts this preparation.
The son of Maurice returned with a stylish two-length success over 1400m at Belmont on September 16 before finding the same distance a little less suitable when rising in grade and finishing third on September 26, although he stuck to his task well against more seasoned opposition.
Stepping up to 1600m at Ascot on October 10 proved ideal, with Streamlined sustaining a long run from the rear to score impressively, and while Saturday's 1800m assignment brings a further rise in distance and an additional 2kg, there is plenty to suggest the gelding can continue his progression.
His pedigree offers encouragement, being out of the four-time stakes-winning mare Silverstream, while several of Saturday's rivals are more exposed and deeper into their preparations, having already finished behind him a fortnight ago.
Chris Parnham retains the ride, and although barrier nine may appear awkward, Streamlined has appreciated having room to build momentum in his recent victories, so an uninterrupted passage from the wider draw could again prove beneficial.
Guinness Handicap Tips (Race 7)
Ascot Favourite - Race 7 No. 9 Bassett Hound
Bassett Hound is rapidly establishing himself as one of Western Australia's most exciting emerging sprinters, with the Mitchell Pateman-trained gelding aiming to extend his winning sequence to five when stepping out second-up at Ascot on Saturday.
The son of Wootton Bassett resumed with an impressive victory in Rating 72+ company on October 10, defeating the capable Like Clockwork, who had returned with a strong first-up success of her own, and the performance continued a remarkable progression that began with his maiden breakthrough in April.
After showing promise without quite putting everything together during his earlier appearances, the four-year-old reeled off three consecutive victories through autumn and early winter, progressing from maiden company to Saturday grade with ease and producing powerful finishing efforts on each occasion.
That acceleration was again evident in his latest appearance, when he came from the rear to overhaul established rivals, and although connections may eventually look to stretch him out to 1100m or 1200m, the 1000m remains an ideal distance while he continues working through the sprinting grades.
Patrick Carbery stays aboard at 54.5kg, and barrier five should provide a few more options than the wider draw he overcame first-up, with Bassett Hound looking capable of putting this field away before potentially measuring up in stronger company over the next few months.
Liquor Barons - Belgravia Stakes Tips (Race 9)
Ascot Feature Bet - Race 9 No. 1 Beatty
The Listed Belgravia Stakes is Saturday's feature at Ascot, and much of the attention will surround the return of Beatty, with the Sean and Jake Casey-trained colt having completed two spring trials and impressing when working home to win his latest 1000m hit-out at Belmont on October 12.
The son of Gingerbread Man enjoyed an outstanding juvenile campaign, winning both starts during his initial preparation last November by comfortable margins before returning in April to claim the Listed Perth Stakes and establish himself among the leading two-year-olds in Western Australia.
His subsequent second in the Group 2 Karrakatta Plate was arguably one of his best performances, having been uncharacteristically slow from the barriers before rattling home from near the rear, with that costly beginning making the difference between victory and defeat.
Beatty made amends when stepping up to 1400m in the Group 3 WA Sires' Produce Stakes on May 2, scoring decisively before heading for a break, and while he faces some race-fit opposition alongside promising resuming rivals such as Achy Breaky, his established stakes form gives him a clear class advantage.
The 59kg impost is an obvious challenge, but Lucy Fiore takes the reins with William Pike riding in Melbourne, and the jockey arrives in excellent form after recording a treble at Ascot last Saturday, with Beatty's four victories from five starts and encouraging trial preparation making him the runner to beat.
Johnny Fox's Handicap Tips (Race 10)
Ascot Roughie - Race 10 No. 8 Rally The Troops
Rally The Troops was a costly disappointment during the Kalgoorlie carnival on October 3, beaten more than seven lengths as favourite, but there are enough circumstances surrounding that second-up failure to suggest the five-year-old deserves another chance at generous double-figure odds.
The Daniel and Ben Pearce-trained gelding was unsuited by a race that favoured runners closer to the speed, while a slow post-race recovery and the discovery of mucus during the subsequent veterinary examination provided further explanation for a performance well below expectations.
His September 19 resumption at Belmont was considerably more encouraging, with Rally The Troops badly held up at a crucial stage before finishing sixth over 1200m, and with even luck in transit, he could have been right in the finish.
Staying at 1400m third-up is a significant positive, with all six of his career victories recorded over the distance, along with another four placings from 16 attempts, including consecutive metropolitan successes at Belmont and Ascot during March and April earlier this year.
He subsequently remained competitive in stronger company before heading for a break, and while that Kalgoorlie defeat will have discouraged plenty of punters, his proven record over this trip, earlier metropolitan form and forgivable latest performance make Rally The Troops a roughie worth considering in the Ascot finale.
