Gold Coast 500 2026 Preview & Predictions - Kostecki to Continue Bathurst Momentum

Brodie Kostecki is backed to continue his winning form at the 2026 Gold Coast 500 with a threat of heavy rain around Surfers Paradise to make this weekend even more of a challenge.

The Supercars Championship heads to the Gold Coast from October 23-25 for the opening round of the 2026 Finals Series, with ten drivers fighting to keep their championship hopes alive and only seven progressing to Sandown.

Matt Payne arrives as the top seed, just five points ahead of Broc Feeney, while Bathurst 1000 winner Kostecki enters fourth, 54 points behind the championship leader.

The Gold Coast's notorious concrete walls and challenging chicanes are difficult enough in dry conditions, but showers forecast throughout the weekend could make this one of the most unpredictable rounds of the season.

Two 250km races await around the 2.96km Surfers Paradise Street Circuit, with qualifying for Saturday's race taking place on Friday.

Gold Coast 500 2026 Key Stats

  • Brodie Kostecki has claimed eight victories in 2026, including the Bathurst 1000.
  • Matt Payne leads the Finals standings by five points over Broc Feeney.
  • Ten drivers enter the opening Finals round, with seven advancing to Sandown.
  • The Gold Coast 500 features two 85-lap races around the 2.96km street circuit.
  • Rain is forecast across all three days, with Friday potentially receiving up to 40mm.
  • Kostecki's 2025 championship challenge was effectively ended by a heavy qualifying crash at Surfers Paradise.

Gold Coast 500 Race Winner Tips

Brodie Kostecki is our leading selection to win one of the two Gold Coast races.

The Dick Johnson Racing driver arrives in outstanding form after claiming the Bathurst 1000, taking his season tally to eight victories.

The #17 Ford has consistently demonstrated race-winning speed, and Kostecki has the confidence and momentum to challenge at the front again.

However, the Gold Coast presents a very different challenge to Mount Panorama.

Kostecki's championship hopes were effectively ended at this circuit last year when he crashed heavily at the Turn 1/2/3 chicane during qualifying. That experience will certainly be fresh in his mind, particularly with wet conditions expected.

Payne and Feeney remain major threats, while Cam Waters is another driver capable of capitalising on an unpredictable weekend.

Nevertheless, Kostecki's recent form makes him our preferred race winner across the two events.

Race Winner Prediction: Brodie Kostecki to win either Gold Coast race.

Gold Coast 500 Qualifying Tips

Qualifying could produce some of the biggest surprises of the weekend.

Friday's session determines the drivers who advance to Saturday's Top Ten Shootout, but persistent rain could mean the leading contenders face their first dry running of the weekend during the Shootout itself.

That would be a remarkable challenge around a circuit where drivers need confidence to attack the kerbs and get close to the concrete walls.

Kostecki has been one of the strongest qualifiers throughout 2026, recording seven pole positions. Although Zach Bates denied him a fourth consecutive Bathurst pole earlier this month, the DJR driver remains a serious qualifying contender.

The changing conditions make this a difficult market to approach before practice, but Kostecki has the single-lap speed to challenge.

Qualifying Prediction: Brodie Kostecki to challenge for pole position.

Verdict
