Liverpool are predicted to continue their strong Champions League run with a home victory over Villarreal at Anfield. With six wins in their last eight matches and a formidable record on home turf, the Reds are tipped to win, bolstered by Alexander Isak’s impressive scoring form. Despite Liverpool’s defensive vulnerabilities, Villarreal could get on the scoresheet but are unlikely to stop the hosts. Key players' availability and recent form are discussed, with Isak seen as a strong candidate to score for the fourth consecutive game.

Liverpool vs Villarreal UEFA Champions League Tips & Prediction

Liverpool are backed to extend their perfect start to this season's Champions League with a home win at Anfield, with in-form striker Alexander Isak to find the back of the net for the third straight game.

The Reds are still a way off the sort of form that could win the Champions League, but they've won six of their last eight games in all competitions and are equipped with an intimidating record at home in this competition.

Indeed, Liverpool have won 15 of their last 16 CL league/group phase games at Anfield, so it's unlikely Villarreal - who have lost seven of their last eight games in this competition - will pose much of a threat on Tuesday night.

But that's not to say the Yellow Submarine can't get on the scoresheet - they've scored in six of their last eight games, while Liverpool have conceded seven in their last three, including three against LASK Linz on Matchday 2.

Alexander Isak is the best Anytime Goalscorer play, with the Swedish striker starting to find his feet as the Reds' main man up front, while Villarreal fullback Santiago Mourino holds some value for a shot on target after some brilliant performances in his opening two CL appearances.
  • Liverpool have won 15 of their last 16 home CL games
  • Villarreal have lost seven of their last eight CL games - including six straight on the road
  • Villarreal have seen BTTS land in six of their last eight games
  • Liverpool have conceded 1+ goal in four of their last five games, including three vs LASK on Matchday 2
  • Alexander Isak has scored three goals in his last three games for club & country
  • Santiago Mourino has scored in both CL games this season - Liverpool struggle defensively and the right fullback could find himself in a position to work the keeper again here

Liverpool vs Villarreal Head To Head

Liverpool have won three of the four previous meetings, along with five straight against Spanish teams.

Villarreal are winless in their last 16 CL games against English opposition, losing 10.

Liverpool Form Analysis

It's been a bit of a turbulent start to the season, but at the end of the day, Liverpool have won six of their last eight games in all comps - including both Champions League outings.

Liverpool came from behind to edge out Atletico Madrid 2-1 on Matchday 1 before last week's wild 6-3 victory over LASK Linz in Austria, with Bradley Barcola getting off the mark in Red colours with a hat-trick.

Andoni Iraola's side backed it up with a superb 2-1 victory on the road over 10-man Brentford at the weekend, with Isak returning from injury to get on the scoresheet.

Those wins have restored some confidence after Man City rolled into town with a rampant 3-0 win at Anfield two weeks ago.

Liverpool Team News

Midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai and defender Jeremie Frimpong both came off injured in the win over Brentford and could be out for extended periods.

Cody Gakpo came off the bench against Brentford and could return to the starting side in a fearsome attacking quartet alongside Isak, Barcola and Florian Wirtz. But Victor Munoz did score at the weekend & has netted vs Villarreal before, so the Spaniard might hold his spot on the wing.

Ryan Gravenberch is available again after being suspended and should come into midfield alongside Alexis Mac Allister.

Liverpool Possible Starting XI (4-2-3-1): Alisson; Ronaldo Araujo, Jeremy Jacquet, Joe Gomez, Konstantinos Tsimikas; Ryan Gravenberch, Alexis Mac Allister; Victor Munoz, Florian Wirtz, Bradley Barcola; Alexander Isak

Villarreal Form Analysis

It hasn't been a great start to the season for Villarreal.

The Yellow Submarine are 12th on the La Liga ladder, taking just nine points from a possible 27 and coming off a 0-0 stalemate with Elche at the weekend.

Inigo Perez's team lost their seventh straight Champions League game against Dortmund on Matchday 1, but bounced back for a brilliant come-from-behind victory over Napoli last week.

Right back Santiago Mourino scored for the second straight CL game, with Georges Mikautadze and Tani Oluwaseyi also finding the back of the net.

Villarreal Team News

Nicolas Pepe and Tajon Buchanan are both unavailable with injuries.

Villarreal will probably need more from Mikautadze if they are to threaten here, with the Georgian scoring just three goals in 15 games for club and country this term.

Villarreal Possible Starting XI (4-4-2): Peter Gulacsi; Alex Freeman, Pau Navarro, Renato Veiga, Sergi Cardona; Ilias Akhomach, Santi Comesana, Pepe Gueye, Alberto Moleiro; Ayoze Perez, Georges Mikautadze

Verdict

Liverpool are backed for the win at Anfield, with Isak scoring for a fourth straight game.
