Grafton Tips October 20
Graftontickets.com.au Maiden Plate Tips (Race 1)
Grafton Best Bet - Race 1 No. 8 Queen Of Thinking
Queen Of Thinking caught the eye with significant improvement at her second career start, finishing a close runner-up in a 1590m maiden at Ballina after an encouraging introduction to racing.
The Kris Lees-trained filly was beaten less than half a length on that occasion, with the leading pair finishing more than two lengths clear of third, while the fourth and fifth placegetters subsequently finished in the first three at their next appearances.
Although both previous outings have come on Good ground, there is encouragement in her pedigree regarding the forecast Heavy conditions, with her dam having recorded two victories on Heavy surfaces.
The daughter of So You Think should appreciate the rise in distance, particularly after her strong finishing effort at Ballina, while an inside barrier provides an opportunity to secure an economical run on a testing surface.
Lees has a solid record of success at Grafton, and with Benjamin Osmond retaining the ride after partnering Queen Of Thinking last time, the improving three-year-old looks well placed to break her maiden.

Grafton Next Best Bet - Race 4 No. 1 Sun Topaze
Sun Topaze has several factors in his favour ahead of Tuesday's assignment, with the Shane Everson-trained gelding one of only three runners in the field to have recorded a victory on Heavy ground.
The six-time winner also boasts an excellent record at Grafton, having registered three of those successes at the venue, including a determined victory over 2220m on his penultimate appearance.
Despite beginning slowly on that occasion, Sun Topaze recovered to score by just under half a length before backing up with a close runner-up finish over a slightly shorter distance last week, with both performances coming at Benchmark 58 level.
Although yet to win over Tuesday's exact distance, the gelding has previously saluted over 2350m at Grafton, suggesting stamina will be no concern, while an inside barrier gives him every opportunity to secure a favourable position.
Jett Newman knows Sun Topaze well after partnering him in each of his previous four appearances, and despite the challenge of carrying top weight, the pair look capable of combining for the gelding's seventh career victory.

Grafton Value Bet - Race 7 No. 3 Silent Call
Silent Call has been well beaten in both appearances this preparation, although the Matthew Dunn-trained gelding should have taken valuable fitness improvement from those outings against stronger metropolitan opposition.
Both runs came in Benchmark 78 company at Doomben, most recently when finishing ninth of nine over 1350m late last month after jumping from a wide barrier at triple-figure odds.
The drop in grade is a major positive for Tuesday's assignment, while the rise in distance and a more favourable inside draw should allow Silent Call to settle closer to the action and produce a more competitive performance.
Heavy conditions are unlikely to present any concerns, with the gelding having won his only previous appearance on a testing surface, while his earlier performances in stronger company suggest he possesses the ability to measure up at this level.
Andrew Mallyon has previously enjoyed success aboard Silent Call, and with the pair reunited in a considerably more suitable assignment, the gelding shapes as an appealing value proposition.

Grafton Roughie - Race 8 No. 10 Tara Koda
Tara Koda is a familiar performer at Grafton for trainer John Shelton, with 14 of her 23 career appearances coming at the venue, including both of her victories.
The five-year-old most recently saluted in a Benchmark 58 handicap on Soft ground in early June and has produced several respectable efforts in defeat since, suggesting another competitive performance could be within reach.
Her latest appearance resulted in a fifth-place finish over 1610m in a similar contest, where she was beaten two-and-a-half lengths after being ridden patiently, and the drop in distance should present no significant concerns given her previous form.
Although that latest race has yet to produce a subsequent winner, the second, fourth and ninth placegetters all finished runner-up at their next starts, providing some encouragement regarding the strength of the form.
Tara Koda has also recorded two respectable efforts in defeat on Heavy ground, and with Mikayla Weir taking the ride, the mare could prove capable of surprising several better-fancied rivals at attractive odds.
