BELMONT
Race 6 - Last Of Line (fourth): Is going to be a little tricky to place in winter with a high rating, although could well be Railway/Kingston Town contender later this year. Was spotting 7.5kg here first-up to Startrade (won seven of his last 10) and All Day Session, a sprinter with strong form lines around Triple Missile and Kissonallforcheeks, but made ground with 62kg, recording the fastest last 600m in the process.
Race 9 - Strathmore Rose (fifth): Was kept in a pocket by the eventual runner-up (Sneaky Chance) at a key stage early in this fresh attempt and from there she was mostly racing in restricted room, yet wasn't beaten far. Has put together a handy record to date and all winning form has come on wet tracks, so will get her chance at Belmont over winter. She generally settles closer and they can find something a little easier.
FLEMINGTON
Race 5 - Pascero (fourth): This smart Busuttin & Young colt was travelling into the race beautifully , but when the sprint went into the race he could not go with some of the sharper types. Getting to 1400m next start and importantly around a bend is going to prove beneficial for him. We saw him nearly pinch a CS Hayes stakes over Pinstriped last prep which is strong enough form to measure up in any race over winter.
Race 8 - Countofmontrechristo (sixth): This was the hidden run of the race, this ex-Singapore star has dropped low enough in the rating in Australia to start contesting benchmark races over the mile, The positive as well is that he is trained in Adelaide, so Travis Doudle can place him against some weaker horses in BM90 grade, the same grade as this, except he was against some proper stakes class horses.
IPSWICH
Race 7 - Berdibek (sixth): This ghostly grey looked the winner on the bend, darting through along the inside to hit the front a long way from home, but ultimately was in the wrong part of the track with all horses coming with momentum down the outside flying home in the final 100m. He always takes a few runs to hit his straps, so fourth-up next start, hard fit and hopefully and outside gate, you will see him in the finish.
Race 9 - Majestic Shot (third): Four of the first five home in running sat inside the first five, while this mare came from near enough to last to grab third. She also lost a plate in the run so may have pulled up a little sore post the run, but she is going super this time in and in her right race, is going put a stakes race away. Would love to see her settle closer in the run, but overall is one to follow going forward off this.
MURRAY BRIDGE
Race 5 - Lake's Folly (fourth): He put somewhat of a bridesmaid's tag to bed with back-to-back wins to end his last campaign and both runs this time in suggest he's building to win over a little more ground. Was angling for a run and took a tight gap at the 100m, catching the eye late for fourth. Holds a 1600m nomination at Morphettville this Saturday, a trip he's seemingly looking for, so keep an eye out for a quick back-up.
Race 8 - Pimm's Party (sixth): This four-year-old hasn't had much luck via her last two attempts, although has improved following a slow start to the prep. After a sustaining a wide run on the Parks circuit two back, she was badly held-up in this 1200m attempt multiple times, with the winner adding insult by getting a dream run along the inside. She's been kept to sprint trips, with perhaps 1400m worth a try next time.
ROSEHILL
Race 3 - Just Business (fifth): Perhaps not a coming Saturday winner, but if they can drop back to a BM64-68 at the provincials, then he's certainly going well enough to win something easier. Despite a very low rating, they've persisted in these BM72's and in a tough event to make ground, he was arguably the run of the race when threading a late passage. Over little further, he's ready to win in the right grade.
Race 8 - Irish Legend (third): Winner (Wicklow) was enormous on a tough day for backmarkers and Easifar (second) is working towards a win, with this import giving 2.5kg to that Waller pair on Australian debut. Working home in restricted room, he was a little unlucky not grab second, although being a dual winner at ten furlongs, he just lacked a bit of brilliance at 1500m. Will only improve over more ground.
