Randwick’s September 6 meeting offered vital clues for the upcoming spring races, highlighting several horses to follow. Flying Bandit shaped as a promising stayer after a strong late finish in Race 5, indicating he will improve over longer distances. Sir Delius impressed on his Australian debut, nearly claiming Race 7 and confirming his potential for top spring contests. Randwick’s September 6 meeting delivered plenty of talking points, with several runners catching the eye as we move deeper into the spring.

From a stayer building toward longer trips to an import with Group 1 form and a couple of Waller runners who had no luck, there was plenty to take from the day.

Here are the horses to follow out of the meeting.

Race 5 - Flying Bandit (6th): He continues to look more like a stayer with every run, and this 1600m blowout was a nice fresh effort where he did his best work late.

The Kerry Parker-trained galloper progressed well last season, highlighted by his Listed Wagga Cup win in May.

He then finished seventh-of-sixteen over 2400m in Brisbane before heading to the paddock.

Flying Bandit does tend to hit a flat spot in his races, which was evident again here before finding a second wind, and he will only improve from this return.
Race 7 - Sir Delius (2nd): The import last raced in Europe in the 2024 Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe before making his Australian debut with a good win in the Group 3 Chairman’s Handicap at Doomben.

That Brisbane triumph came over 2000m, and despite 1600m being short of his best he was only a stride away from beating Lindermann.

The winner was well rated in front, but Sir Delius was strong through the line.

A lightly raced entire by Frankel, he has acclimatised quickly for the Waterhouse & Bott yard and shapes as a serious spring contender.
Race 8 - Lady Shenandoah (2nd) & Generosity (9th): Blind Freddy could see how unlucky Lady Shenandoah was, with the versatile Chris Waller-trained mare set to improve sharply from this effort.

Generosity, her stablemate, finished ninth-of-twelve as a $17 chance but was held up and restricted for room in the straight.

She has never been a first-up winner, so being out of the money fresh was no surprise and we could get a price next start.

The ex-WA galloper has shown her versatility across 1200m-1400m, and there are plenty of options ahead as she builds into the spring.
