Glorious Goodwood 2026 draws to a dramatic conclusion on Saturday afternoon.

The Glorious Stakes and Lillie Langtry Stakes provide excellent support before the historic Stewards' Cup brings the curtain down on another memorable festival.

Our race-by-race preview for day five of Glorious Goodwood 2026 is below, while Live Racing & Sports Updates provides the latest previews, analysis and coverage across all sporting codes.

Glorious Goodwood 2026 - Day 5 Preview

Race 1 - Summer Handicap Tips

Valedictory could still be ahead of the handicapper, while Aeronautic also looks to hold strong claims. However, I've come down on the side of 13. Small Fry, who shaped well when sixth in the Ascot Stakes last time out.

Small Fry ended his time with Gary and Josh Moore in excellent form, winning quality handicaps at Chester and Epsom. Joseph O'Brien's recruit then faded after leading on his stable debut in the Irish Cesarewitch before placing in two hurdle starts during May without ever looking entirely comfortable over obstacles.

Oisin Murphy was desperate to hug the rail throughout the Ascot Stakes, and Small Fry picked up strongly once the gaps appeared, staying on into sixth as his stablemates fought out the finish.

This trip looks much more suitable, a wide draw has often proven advantageous in this race, and Small Fry could still have further improvement to come on the Flat.

Race 2 - Glorious Stakes Tips

Al Aasy bids for a hat-trick of victories in this Group 3, and William Haggas' nine-year-old sets a high standard. However, stablemate 7. Opportunity appeals more, and I'm happy to side with the younger of the two Haggas runners.

Opportunity has looked like the stereotypical "Group horse running in a handicap" in both starts this season. James Doyle's mount bolted up on his return at Carlisle before powering clear of Warrant Holder to land the Duke Of Edinburgh Stakes at Royal Ascot.

Haggas' gelding also recovered well from a dreadful start to finish fourth behind Amiloc in last year's Gordon Stakes here at Goodwood.

Opportunity negotiated stall one comfortably under James McDonald at Ascot, so the same draw shouldn't cause too many concerns.

Race 3 - Lillie Langtry Stakes Tips

Waardah made the most of her three-year-old allowance when edging out Danielle in this race 12 months ago. Danielle looks capable of reversing that form at level weights, but I'm not convinced either of the market leaders, or Consent for that matter, will produce their best on fast ground.

1. Santorini Star won twice on quick ground last season before toughing it out to beat the geldings in the fast-ground Jockey Club Stakes at Newmarket in May.

William Haggas' mare then went down fighting to Caballo De Mar in the Group 1 Prix Vicomtesse Vigier before tackling a superb renewal of the Hardwicke Stakes. Nothing went right that day, as she was slowly away, raced wide on the speed and faded as Kalpana and Giavellotto asserted.

This looks much more suitable, the trip is ideal and she already boasts winning form at Goodwood.

Even with her Group 2 penalty, Santorini Star looks a solid bet at an each-way quote.

Race 4 - Stewards' Cup Tips

I'm sticking with 16. Fandom, who can still be backed at the same price I took a couple of weeks ago. Richard Hannon's recruit made his stable debut over five furlongs here in May before placing at York and winning at Thirsk after another solid effort at Goodwood.

Sean Levey's mount then attempted to make all from stall one in the Wokingham before fading inside the final furlong. Fandom followed with a fourth at Windsor and was last seen back over five furlongs at Ascot, finishing strongly into third behind the excellent Dubai Bling.

The stocky son of Showcasing began his career in the United States, winning sprint races for Wesley Ward and Brad Cox before a brief stint with Joseph O'Brien. Fandom then represented Olly Murphy in two sprints at St Moritz, narrowly beaten on both occasions, and has maintained that consistency since joining Hannon.

This tough sprinter has shown a terrific attitude throughout a busy campaign. Fandom handled Goodwood well enough on his stable debut and looks to have every chance from stall 22.
Another who has landed a favourable high draw is an old favourite of mine, 4. Mitbaahy.

Charlie Hills' recruit won Listed and Group 3 sprints for Roger Varian before recording the biggest victory of his career in the 2024 Greenlands Stakes under Jamie Spencer.

Mitbaahy raced only once during an injury-interrupted 2025 campaign before finishing last on his return in the Cammidge Trophy. On handicap debut in the Wokingham he stormed home into fifth behind Double Rush, before another solid effort back in Pattern company in the Hackwood Stakes.

Hills is a master trainer of sprinters. Battaash was a superstar, while Khaadem was the same age as Mitbaahy when winning the first of his two Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee Stakes. Jamie Spencer reunites with Mitbaahy, and despite carrying 61kg, he has the class to take out this famous handicap.

Race 5 - Phase Eight Handicap Tips

5. Ghost Mode is an interesting runner as he steps back up to seven furlongs. Andrew Balding's colt raced exclusively over this trip as a juvenile, winning well at Chester and placing in quality races at Goodwood, Epsom and York.

After bolting in on handicap debut at Southwell in March, Balding looked to have a progressive sprinter on his hands.

Ghost Mode then raced erratically when trying to lead in the Commonwealth Cup Trial, pulled hard and hung left in the Carnarvon Stakes, before finding the speedsters too sharp over five furlongs at Royal Ascot.

He produced a much-improved effort back over six furlongs at the July Festival, finishing sixth behind Jazl in the Betway Heritage Handicap. Ghost Mode stayed seven furlongs strongly last season, and Rob Hornby should appreciate drawing stall four.

Race 6 - Maiden Stakes Tips

Speakers Corner commands respect given Aidan O'Brien's excellent record in Goodwood maidens. However, 1. Al Wathba made an encouraging debut at the July Festival, and the form has already worked out well.

William Buick's mount looked very green at Newmarket, racing keenly before hanging towards the rail as Haffner quickened away. Despite that, Al Wathba stayed on strongly over seven furlongs to finish a clear second ahead of Velociraptor.

Haffner was narrowly beaten by Dr Rascal in the Vintage Stakes earlier this week, while Velociraptor bolted in on his next maiden start at Chester.

Al Wathba should improve significantly for that debut and looks a colt with plenty of upside.

Race 7 - Shaker Handicap Tips

Glorious Goodwood concludes with an open-looking nine-furlong handicap. Oli Rix was desperately unlucky to miss out on a first Royal Ascot winner when Noble Horizon was narrowly beaten in the opening race of the meeting, but he can make amends with 7. Spell Master.

Spell Master won the maiden on this card when trained by Andrew Balding last season before being gelded after joining Rix in June. He endured a difficult stable debut at Doncaster but bounced back with an excellent second over a mile at Newmarket behind former stablemate Spanish Voice, with future winner Stem back in fourth.

Rix then rolled the dice in the John Smith's Cup at York, where Spell Master again performed admirably, finishing sixth behind the impressive Raammee after being run down late by two closers.

Ray Dawson, who partnered Raammee to victory, now takes the ride. This 1800m trip looks ideal, Spell Master remains on a mark of 89, and his low draw should allow Dawson to settle him into a handy position.
