ASCOT

Race 4 - Knot Secret (third): Had no luck first-up and despite a drop in grade here, he again had excuses when racing in restricted room in the home straight. While the winner was in clear room and had all the momentum, Knot Secret was still trying to take a tight gap and although he did sprint strongly in the finish, he was never going to bridge the gap. Gets another chance third-up.

Race 6 - Special View (fifth): Honest five-year-old that's been racing well all prep without favours and now with a mile run under his belt, he's ready to win. Covered ground third-up in a brave performance and was held-up here until the 50m, so should've gone close with clean air earlier in the run home. He may be able to find something a shade easier over this trip next start.

DOOMBEN

Race 5 - Fast Train (ninth): This seven-year-old gelding did not have the best of luck and although would not have won the race, the margin would have been a little closer to two to three lengths. He was well-backed into $11 coming off some country Queensland runs, so back to that level off of this no metro wins race, he should be very well suited.

Race 6 - Count Da Beans (second): Has finished second three times from four starts this prep, super unlucky two back and this time rockets home to just miss Lubrication ($26). By Spill The Beans, this three-year-old could be tested over 1300m-1400m next start with his turn of speed, along with a slight step back in grade, and that should see him record a deserved win.

MORPHETTVILLE

Race 7 - Mr Have A Chat (second): After getting into a speed battle up front with Secret War, who compounded at the 200m, it was a very brave second-up performance from this five-year-old, who still held a decent enough margin on third considering this was a race set-up for the swoopers. It's also worth noting that he won third-up last campaign off a much worse platform than this.
Race 8 - Paramedic (fourth): After a nice return when unsuited at Murray Bridge and now a luckless second-up effort, this ex-Victorian looks to be flying in his first two runs for the David Jolly yard. Strongly suspect that if Kayla Crowther had her time again, that she wouldn't have let Classy Kenny cross, as they would've then avoided a tiring Aesthete falling into their lap at a key stage.

PAKENHAM

Race 5 - River Ribble (third): Loved the work from this Ribchester gelding through the line, clearly looking for the 1100m to 1200m journey. He produced a big 10.46 from the 600m to 400m to get himself into the race, the second fastest split for that section of the entire day and given he was first-up, there is still so much improvement left in him. Should go through the grades over summer.
Race 6 - Corner Pocket (second): The class galloper of the race, he gave the winner 5kg and is the type that does improve sharply over 1400m. Just the one run over the Spring Carnival, he has been saved for the summer which looks the perfect opportunity to boost his rating. Whatever he runs in next start, expect him to start favourite and for the money to pour on.

ROSEHILL

Race 4 - Frumos (sixth) & Thalassophile (eighth): If you'd backed either of this Waller pair, then you're feeling ill after this messy affair, with the market very, very lucky to have got the Frumos drift correct and while most of the post-race commentary centred around the fav, Thalossophile was also luckless, having found a second wind, but nowhere to go. Both runners should be followed.
Race 8 - Deficit (fourth): Wary of following the first three home, just given how blessed they were here with perfect runs in transit off a hot speed, whereas Deficit was further back and chasing a long way out here second-up. Was bettered Brutality on the clock, who had a big weight, but that runner is hard fit and coming out of hot races, while this gelding can easily drop in grade to a BM78.
