Grafton features a seven-race program on August 18 with three Maiden events. The track is currently rated Good, though downgrades are possible. Key tips are Dance Gavin Dance (Race 2) as the best bet, Winning Harlow (Race 4) as next best, and Warrior Bae (Race 6) for value, with Hotzino (Race 7) suggested as a roughie chance. Each selection is backed by recent form analysis and track conditions. Bettors are advised to consider track downgrades but these runners should be competitive regardless of surface.

Grafton Best Bet - Race 2 No. 2 Dance Gavin Dance

Six of Dance Gavin Dance’s seven starts to date have produced encouraging performances, with the sole exception coming when outclassed at Group 3 level on the Gold Coast three starts ago.

The gelding returned to winning form over this distance at Casino in June, scoring by just under a length in BM66 company on a Soft surface.

He is set to return from a let-up here after trialling solidly for third at Grafton last month.

While a track downgrade is possible, forecast Good ground would pose no issue after the four-year-old demonstrated winning form on a sound surface at Ballina in April.

Danny Peisley knows the son of Royal Symphony well and the pair look capable of combining for their fourth victory together.

Congratulations Andrew Mallyon Maiden Handicap Tips (Race 4)

Grafton Next Best Bet - Race 4 No. 12 Winning Harlow

Two solid Queensland appearances have Winning Harlow arriving here with some encouraging form behind her.

The filly started at $26 for the latest of those when racing from midfield in a 1200m maiden at Eagle Farm late last month.

Beaten just under two-and-a-half lengths, she kept on nicely and the rise in distance looks suitable.

Dropping back to country level is another positive, while barrier four gives the flashy chestnut every opportunity to find a suitable position.

A downgrade should not trouble her based on breeding, while Kris Lees has enjoyed a strong year at Grafton and the decision to scratch her from the Sunshine Coast on Sunday may pay dividends with blinkers applied for the first time.

Congratulations Sam Mcguren Benchmark 66 Handicap Tips (Race 6)

Grafton Value Bet - Race 6 No. 6 Warrior Bae

A Heavy 10 victory at Ballina three starts ago provided Warrior Bae with the second win of his career.

The gelding scored by just under one-and-a-half lengths that day before backing up with two strong top-three finishes on Soft ground, including at the Gold Coast last time.

The runner-up from that latest race has since performed well in metropolitan company, while Warrior Bae’s tactical versatility is a positive from the wide draw.

Should the forecast rain fail to arrive, Good ground is no concern after he won his maiden on a sound surface at Lismore last September.

Andrew Mallyon partners him for the first time since that Lismore success and Warrior Bae rates as value to record career win number three.

Grafton Roughie - Race 7 No. 10 Hotzino

A previous Grafton winner, Hotzino saluted over 1400m here in July last year and has made just two starts so far in 2026.

The seven-year-old was well held at big odds over 1400m at this venue when resuming before taking a step forward second-up at Casino.

Racing over 1200m, the mare finished fourth and was beaten two-and-a-half lengths in BM50 company.

Jason Reilly’s representative settled off the pace in both runs this campaign, so the wide barrier should not pose too much of a concern.

Hotzino has winning form on both Good and wet surfaces and has scored over this distance previously, while Grady Spokes retains the ride after partnering her last time and she may be capable of surprising.
