Belmont Roughie Tip


Belmont Roughie - Race 9 No. 7 Esprit Garcon

After getting back in a leader-dominated event over 1000m, Esprit Garcon couldn't have done much more first-up.

The grey recorded the second-fastest closing sectionals of the May 3 Ascot card and he now suited up to 1200m.

The five-year-old hasn't progressed after winning all four starts in his second prep, although he's still lightly raced.

Esprit Garcon raced wide fresh last prep and he was spelled after one more outing, while the market often finds him.

Doomben Roughie Tip


Doomben Roughie - Race 6 No. 13 Torabella

There were excuses first-up at Eagle Farm, where Torabella covered ground and she tired late as a result.

She then failed when in the market for a Listed race and that last run can be forgiven (didn't handle a heavy track).

Before this prep, Torabella had won five of her last six, which includes a hat-trick to round out her summer.

A return to Doomben suits, as she has four wins and a third from five tries here (unbeaten over this track/trip).

Murray Bridge Roughie Tip


Murray Bridge Roughie - Race 8 No. 15 Turned Loose

There's upside with this mare, who is fourth-up in just her third campaign and she's completed only 10 starts.

After an honest showing first-up in a decent form race, Turned Loose pulled up lame via a second-up failure.

She quickly atoned when ridden colder over 1600m here and Wild Winner franked that form on Wednesday.

From three starts at Murray Bridge, Turned Loose has two wins and a second, while 1800m suits on Saturday.

Randwick Roughie Tip


Randwick Roughie - Race 8 No. 10 Zouatica

It was an enormous return victory at Listed level in Canberra, where Zouatica covered ground over 1400m.

That run left him flat second-up and the five-year-old was then backed at longer odds in the Tamworth Cup.

While he didn't threaten in that third-up attempt, it was a competitive effort and getting to 1600m suits now.

Zouatica should be put into the race early and the conditions are in his favour (three-from-three on heavy tracks).

Sandown Roughie Tip


Sandown Roughie - Race 4 No. 7 Stirrup Cup

The penny is slowly dropping with Stirrup Cup, who was runner-up in the Listed Adelaide Guineas last start.

He was given no chance prior to that when back in a slowly run Group 3 and he was a strong second-up winner.

The South Australian visitor can produce a big finish and the big Sandown Hillside circuit likely to suit.

Despite dropping in grade for this Melbourne visit, Stirrup Cup carries 3kg less and he gets weight off key rivals.
