Glorious Goodwood Day 2 Tips Summary

Flat racing fans have several excellent handicaps to sink their teeth into, alongside a pair of competitive Pattern races.

Glorious Goodwood 2026 - Day 2 Preview

Race 1 - Shaker Handicap Tips

It's been a few years since William Haggas last won the Shaker Handicap, but he looks to hold a leading chance this year with 3. Infraad.

Lightly raced as a juvenile, Infraad finished behind Bay Royale and Hatteen on his reappearance at Nottingham in April before making all under Tom Marquand to open his account at Pontefract later that month. Haggas' colt then made his handicap debut at Chester following a short break, but could only finish third despite starting a $1.62 favourite.

The favourite was surprisingly slow away that day and found little room to manoeuvre along the rail. Infraad responded well when asked for an effort and stayed on gamely to finish just a length behind King's Code.

I'm sure this son of Ghaiyyath will have benefited greatly from that first experience against seasoned handicappers, and he looks ready for the step up to a mile and a half.

Race 2 - Alice Keppel Fillies' Conditions Stakes Tips

Given this race has produced several Group 1-placed sprinters in recent years, it's no surprise to see it moved into a more prominent slot on the day two programme. 8. Wild Blossom heads the betting, and Karl Burke's filly looks capable of becoming the fourth winning favourite in the last six runnings.

Wild Blossom looked a smart prospect when scoring on debut at Carlisle and was well supported at $8 for the Queen Mary Stakes. James Doyle's mount broke and travelled strongly but drifted right under pressure, allowing Victorious and Senorita Bonito to take control on the far side before she was allowed to come home in her own time.

Burke's filly clearly benefited from grabbing the rail at Carlisle, so it wouldn't be a surprise if James Doyle looked to do the same from stall two.

If she has improved mentally for that Royal Ascot outing, Wild Blossom sets the standard.

Race 3 - Oak Tree Stakes Tips

2023 Alice Keppel winner Flora Of Bermuda heads the market for this Group 3 contest. Andrew Balding's filly brings Group 1 form into the race and takes on a field made up largely of consistent handicappers. However, she'll carry a penalty for her Summer Stakes victory and has yet to race over seven furlongs.

A strong early tempo looks likely, which should suit 4. Dash Of Azure. Ralph Beckett's filly struggled on her first two starts this season but arrives here off the back of two narrow Listed defeats at Chester.

Dash Of Azure worked her way through along the inside in the Queen Charlotte Fillies' Stakes before Bellarchi stormed home down the outside. Eddie Greatrex then opted for the outer route in the City Plate Stakes, only for former Jersey Stakes winner Northern Champion to flash home on the rail and deny Beckett's filly by a neck.

A wide draw in stall 14 shouldn't be a major issue, as Dash Of Azure is usually ridden patiently. Hector Crouch will need gaps at the right time, but on recent form she's good enough to play a major role.

Race 4 - Molecomb Stakes Tips

Since establishing his base in Ireland, Brazilian trainer Diego Dias has trained three UK winners. All three were juvenile sprinters, and all three won at Goodwood, so 9. Brazilian Diva appeals as a solid each-way play.

Dias' filly was tried over six furlongs earlier in the season, finishing well beaten at Fairyhouse before contesting a Group 3 at the Curragh. Brazilian Diva relished the drop back to five furlongs when bolting up in a Naas maiden, then backed that up with a narrow second to Carry The Flag in the Listed Tipperary Stakes.

The third from that Listed race has since won a maiden, while fourth-placed Big Negotiator landed the Listed Marwell Stakes back at Naas. Given Dias' outstanding record at this track, it wouldn't be a surprise if this has been the target all along.

She appears to be peaking at exactly the right time.

Race 5 - Sussex Stakes Tips

It's difficult to look beyond Bow Echo and Gstaad given the weight-for-age allowance afforded to the three-year-olds. If this Classic crop is as strong as it appears, the market leaders could have this between them.

However, as last year's Sussex Stakes showed, dismissing the older horses can be dangerous, especially around Goodwood. With that in mind, 3. Never So Brave appeals at an attractive price based on last season's form.

Andrew Balding's star enjoyed an outstanding summer in 2025, winning the Buckingham Palace Stakes and Summer Mile before claiming his first Group 1 in the City of York Stakes. Never So Brave then started at $7 in the QEII on Champions Day but missed the kick badly and finished five lengths behind Cicero's Gift.

Those slow starts have continued this season. Balding's five-year-old was slowly away and raced far too keenly in the bet365 Mile, then couldn't recover from another poor break when fifth in the Tattenham Corner Stakes. He looked much more like himself in the Criterion Stakes, travelling strongly to pass Qirat before last year's Sussex Stakes winner fought back to score by a length and a half.

The way Never So Brave finished off that race hinted that something may have been amiss. The only obvious change is in the saddle, with P.J. McDonald replacing Oisin Murphy, who rides Seagulls Eleven for Hugo Palmer.

McDonald's mount should get the strong tempo he needs, and Goodwood's layout looks ideal for a fast-finishing miler. He can't afford another poor start, but if he breaks on terms, Never So Brave is more than capable of producing a major upset.

Race 6 - Charlton Handicap Tips

A capacity field of 28 has been declared for the inaugural running of this six-furlong handicap. Most of the early pace appears drawn high, so I'll take a chance on 14. Arduis Invicta at generous odds.

Craig Lister's filly won at Beverley and Musselburgh during a busy juvenile campaign before being tested in Listed company during the autumn. Arduis Invicta wasn't beaten far in competitive three-year-old handicaps at Chester and York before chasing home the progressive Mighty Magnus back at Musselburgh in June.

She again ran well at York last time, finishing fourth after being caught behind runners just as the race began to develop.

Arduis Invicta has already shown she stays six furlongs strongly, and this season's efforts suggest she's more than capable of figuring in a race of this nature.

Race 7 - HKJC World Pool Handicap Tips

11. Crimson Spirit scored over this course and distance three starts ago, and the booking of Ryan Moore catches the eye.

Daniel and Claire Kubler's gelding won well here in April before producing a solid fourth at the Epsom Derby Festival. Crimson Spirit then carried 64.5kg into a July Course handicap and ran an excellent race under Billy Loughnane, going down narrowly to Secret History despite conceding more than a stone.

The Kublers have an excellent record when placing in-form handicappers, and Moore should have every opportunity to give Crimson Spirit the run of the race from stall 10.

Crimson Spirit looks to hold a major chance in Wednesday's finale.
