Eagle Farm Tips July 29

XXXX Gold QTIS Two-Year-Old Maiden Plate Tips (Race 2)

Eagle Farm Value Bet - Race 2 No. 5 Threeeyedwitch

Threeeyedwitch has delivered good efforts in all three starts to date, including on wet ground at Ipswich in March.

Racing over 1200m, the gelding was beaten less than a length in a small-field event that day before heading to the paddock.

Dropped back to 1000m for his first start after the spell, the pick stayed on nicely to be beaten less than one-and-a-half lengths after settling off the pace.

He performed well on a sound surface on that occasion and is expected to have derived a fitness benefit from the run.

The blinkers, applied for the first time two weeks ago, are retained, and with the return to 1200m expected to suit, Kelly Schweida's representative looks capable of breaking his maiden from barrier four with Cejay Graham aboard.

Eagle Farm Roughie - Race 4 No. 7 Head Of The River

Matthew Hoysted's filly demonstrated plenty of ability in maiden company last preparation.

The youngster recorded top-four finishes in all but one of her five starts, with the exception coming from a wide barrier at the Gold Coast in January.

She performed well at that venue later in the campaign, finishing a solid fourth there in early April.

Ridden quietly over 1000m, the filly was beaten less than three-and-a-half lengths on Good going that day before heading for a spell.

The daughter of Shamus Award returns on the back of a second-place finish in a Deagon trial earlier this month, and having already placed twice on Heavy ground, Head Of The River looks capable of making a winning return.

Jace McMurray Benchmark 78 Handicap Tips (Race 6)

Eagle Farm Next Best Bet - Race 6 No. 1 Mean Approach

Winning twice this season, including at Eagle Farm earlier this month, Mean Approach has continued to progress through the grades.

Resuming from a break since March, the gelding impressed when scoring by more than one-and-a-half lengths after settling in midfield.

That victory came over 1000m, but the rise in distance poses no concern, with five of his seven career wins coming at this trip.

Although successful in Benchmark 70 company last start, the five-year-old has previously performed well at this level and looks ready for the rise in class.

After jumping from a wide alley last time, the son of Lean Mean Machine draws more favourably, and having been scratched from Saturday's Eagle Farm meeting to run here, he looks capable of making that decision pay off.

Farewell Kim Kelly Class 1 Handicap Tips (Race 9)

Eagle Farm Best Bet - Race 9 No. 8 Somethin In Orange

A strong record at this distance makes Somethin In Orange the one to beat, having recorded a win and two seconds from four attempts.

While yet to win this preparation, the gelding has finished runner-up twice, including at Ipswich just under two weeks ago.

Racing over 1350m, he was beaten less than half a length on Good going in that latest effort.

Settling towards the rear of midfield, the gelding had to be switched to obtain clear running in the straight, with that performance his best since finishing second at this track in May.

Competing in a similar race here, the son of Brutal was beaten less than two lengths on that occasion, and with an inside draw a positive, he looks well placed to record his second career victory.
