Robrick Lodge Handicap Tips (Race 1)

Randwick-Kensington Value Bet - Race 1 No. 8 Ironblood Empress

Brad Widdup's stable is in outstanding form, with the Hawkesbury trainer preparing six winners and six placegetters from his past 20 starters, and Ironblood Empress looks capable of adding to that tally.

The daughter of Churchill had excuses when making her debut on the Randwick-Kensington circuit on July 1 after being held up at key stages, before again facing a difficult task from a wide barrier at Hawkesbury on July 19.

Despite still doing plenty wrong at Hawkesbury, the filly worked home strongly to record the fastest closing 400m of the meeting.

The step up to 1550m looks ideal, with Chris Waller's Claudel and Artgirl heading the early market despite both having had plenty of recent opportunities.

Chad Schofield, who has ridden four winners for the Widdup stable this month, retains the ride and the lightly raced filly has plenty of upside.

Randwick-Kensington Next Best Bet - Race 4 No. 2 Deep Pleasure

Consistency has been a feature of Deep Pleasure's preparation and she looks close to breaking through after several luckless performances.

The daughter of Deep Field opened her campaign with a runner-up finish at Warwick Farm before being badly held up on the Kensington track on June 10.

She again had excuses at Warwick Farm on June 24 after searching for clear running on straightening, eventually producing the fastest closing sectionals of the race over 1300m once into the clear.

The mare found only the in-form Satono Jasmine too strong over a mile on July 15, with that form subsequently franked when the winner completed a four-peat at Randwick last Saturday.

While the distance remains a query, she is rock-hard fit, has drawn barrier one and should enjoy an economical run under Braith Nock.

Randwick-Kensington Best Bet - Race 5 No. 4 Champagne Hero

A proven Waterhouse & Bott and Tim Clark combination could prove the key with Champagne Hero, who looks ready to peak third-up.

Clark has struck at 22% for the stable this season and has maintained a strike-rate better than 26.5% since the beginning of June.

Champagne Hero was unlucky first-up on June 24 when held up at a crucial stage before stepping to 1600m on July 15, where he found the fitter Iceman too strong after that rival didn't go around a horse.

The three-year-old may simply have been one run short of full fitness at his latest outing, particularly given he was rising to the mile early in the preparation.

A strong second-up winner last spring before holding his own in stakes company, the gelding has drawn to receive every chance and looks capable of going one better.

TAB Handicap Tips (Race 7)

Randwick-Kensington Roughie - Race 7 No. 15 Show 'Em Howl

The Benchmark 72 finale is one of the more competitive races on the program, with Engine Room, Transcend and Anthracite all commanding respect.

Show 'Em Howl still requires a few scratchings to gain a start, but he shapes as an interesting value runner should he make the field.

Fitness gave out over the concluding stages when resuming during the Grafton Carnival, where he was beaten just over three lengths in an encouraging effort.

The gelding boasts an impressive second-up record, winning two of his three attempts, including a Country Championships Qualifier at Port Macquarie before contesting the Group 3 Newcastle Stakes last preparation.

His only second-up defeat came in a Saturday Benchmark 72 at Rosehill and, with long odds available, he appeals as the value play if securing a start.
