Strathalbyn Tips July 29

The Commercial Hotel Strathalbyn Three-Year-Old Maiden Plate Tips (Race 3)

Strathalbyn Favourite - Race 3 No. 8 Polar Eyes

Placed in her last two starts, Polar Eyes has been knocking on the door of a maiden victory.

The filly debuted with a fourth at Pakenham in April, beaten less than two lengths over 1100m on a Heavy track.

The three-year-old has since finished runner-up at her last two appearances, most recently in city company at Morphettville Parks earlier this month.

The daughter of Frosted was beaten two-and-a-half lengths on a Heavy 8 after racing prominently, with the winner, third and fourth all subsequently finishing in the top three.

The return to provincial grade is a positive and, having finished second here on her penultimate start, she looks capable of overcoming the wide draw to record her first career victory.

Strathalbyn Value Bet - Race 4 No. 2 Leading Impact

A return to provincial company gives Leading Impact the chance to bounce back after a disappointing first-up effort.

Resuming at Morphettville Parks earlier this month, the gelding faded to finish last of eight over 1000m after weakening in the straight.

That was his first run for the Aaron Bain & Ned Taylor stable, and improvement is expected second-up.

The son of Zousain is better judged on his earlier form, including a narrow second in a Class 1 over this trip at Wyong, while he also won on a wet track at Muswellbrook.

Drawing an inside barrier is another positive and, with Taylor Johnstone aboard, he looks over the odds to return to winning form.

Strathalbyn Next Best Bet - Race 5 No. 3 United Legend

Since breaking through in Class 1 company at Murray Bridge in May, United Legend has continued to race consistently.

The gelding scored by just under one-and-a-half lengths over 2000m on a wet surface before producing several more competitive efforts.

Three top-four finishes from his next five starts included a strong third over 1800m at Murray Bridge on his penultimate appearance.

He failed to fire last start, but that performance is worth forgiving after coming under pressure much earlier than expected.

The rise in distance is no concern given his previous form over further, and he looks capable of providing the Matthew Seyers stable with another winner.

Strathalbyn Best Bet - Race 6 No. 5 Illustrates

A stable change appears to have unlocked improvement in Illustrates after an encouraging first-up victory.

The mare finished second in a maiden at this track last November but struggled to build on that effort in six subsequent starts before joining Ryan Hannemann.

Resuming at Balaklava two weeks ago, she raced prominently before scoring by just over half a length over 1200m.

The Heavy 8 conditions appeared to suit that day, and with rain forecast, any further downgrade would only enhance her prospects.

Barrier five is another advantage and, with Jemma Gutte retaining the ride and her 3kg claim, Illustrates looks well placed to complete back-to-back victories.
