Bunbury Roughie Tip

Bunbury Roughie - Race 9 No. 10 Otheroneson

A bolter in the last who could give cheek is Otheroneson, who was no match for a dominant and in-form Azena when resuming here on February 26.

Exposed form suggests he often needs a run and his second-up profile is strong, with two wins and a second from four attempts.

The only miss in that sequence was an unlucky fourth in this grade earlier in the season after returning on a Heavy 8 track.

Otheroneson should land on speed, firm ground suits, and in an open race, the seven-year-old makes genuine each-way appeal.

Eagle Farm Roughie Tip

Eagle Farm Roughie - Race 7 No. 4 Castello Grande

Happy to put a line through the first-up attempt at Doomben where he was back and completely unsuited in a slowly run and on-speed dominated affair.

Castello Grande looked a progressive middle-distance type in his first campaign, highlighted by a breakthrough over this trip before a competitive metro performance at Doomben.

Breeding also suggests he will improve as the distances increase, being by Castelvecchio and out of adaughter of Brazilian Pulse, the 2010 VRC Oaks winner.

The gelding looks well placed returning against his own age under handicap conditions, where he carries 5kg less than he did first-up.

Flemington Roughie Tip

Flemington Roughie - Race 7 No. 11 Leica Lucy

Leica Lucy has drawn wide but Pride Of Jenni could string the field out early, so it may not be a major disadvantage.

Last year’s New Zealand Oaks winner has been threatening to win a good race since joining Chris Waller despite competitive efforts in her Australian runs.

Her best performance arguably came when third in the Group 1 Toorak Handicap last spring, where she produced the fastest closing sectionals.

She also ran the quickest closing sectionals of the Futurity Stakes when resuming and, with a strong trial beforehand suggesting improvement, the double-figure quote is tempting in an open contest.

Murray Bridge Roughie Tip

Murray Bridge Roughie - Race 9 No. 7 Dobbinair

A dangerous fresh prospect is Dobbinair, a lightly raced four-year-old who has won both of his starts at Murray Bridge.

That includes a powerful first-up victory in his second preparation when coming from the rear and recording the fastest final 400m of the meeting.

He then handled the rise to metro company before a break and later produced a respectable Listed run in a race taken out by a subsequent Group 1 winner.

Jason Holder reunites with the gelding after riding him in both career wins and, while drawn wide, the middle-to-outside lanes can often be favourable at Murray Bridge.

Randwick Roughie Tip

Randwick Roughie - Race 10 No. 10 Lady Extreme

Lady Extreme could run a race in the last at big odds, arriving second-up after producing a slashing return on February 7.

The 1000m looked a little sharp that day, but she was hard to miss late when recording the fastest closing sectionals of the meeting.

Whether she has the class of some higher-rated rivals is the query, but she is down in the weights, which could prove decisive given she is one of the best closers.

The rise to 1200m is suitable and Lady Extreme may have been aimed at this Group 3 as a black-type target.
