Bunbury Brighter Handicap Tips (Race 2)

Bunbury Next Best Bet - Race 2 No. 4 Seven Candles

With any further progression in this third campaign, Seven Candles will be winning better races than this.

The lightly raced four-year-old got by on raw ability throughout a second campaign that opened with a Pinjarra breakthrough on November 30, when running the fastest last 200m of that entire program.

He quickly handled the rise to Class 1 level at Ascot when making it a double on December 10.

While beaten as a runner-up 10 days later as favourite, he ran into an in-form Auto Cruise, who had won the Westspeed Final a fortnight earlier.

Seven Candles has the versatility and brilliance to handle 1200m, especially fresh, and looks the class runner of this field.

Bunbury Best Bet - Race 5 No. 4 Galway Shawl

The daughter of Toronado has already put together a tidy record with four victories and a second from six starts.

Notably, the mare is four from four at Bunbury and returns to the circuit third-up after a defeat at Pinjarra.

That race has already produced a metro winner in Pingers, while her only prior loss had come second-up before she responded with back-to-back victories in November.

The rise from 1000m to 1200m early in the campaign is not always straightforward, so there should be improvement to come from that last appearance.

Galway Shawl goes up in the weights but finds an easier affair and looks well placed to bounce back on Saturday.

Swan Draught Bunbury Cup Tips (Race 8)

Bunbury Feature Bet - Race 8 No. 3 Silver Eye

Silver Eye was kept to the sprinting caper early in his career, with Adam Durrant now preparing the gelding as a middle-distance type.

His first attempt beyond 1500m came last start in the Listed Detonator Stakes over 1800m, a traditional lead-up to the Bunbury Cup.

He was a luckless runner there after being taken back from a wide draw and held up in the straight before making good late inroads.

There should be a fitness benefit from that effort, particularly Silver Eye had five weeks between runs after completing back-to-back Ascot victories.

Fat Roy Slim was another eye-catcher from that race after also striking trouble, and he was good prior to that when resuming with 60.5kg in a race won by Redback Flyer.

MGIB Handicap Tips (Race 9)

Bunbury Value Bet - Race 9 No. 10 Otheroneson

A bolter in the last who could give cheek is Otheroneson, who was no match for a dominant and in-form Azena when resuming here on February 26.

Exposed form suggests he often needs a run, and his second-up profile is strong with two wins and a second from four attempts.

The only miss in that sequence was an unlucky fourth in this grade earlier in the season after returning on a Heavy 8 track.

While yet to salute since a lengthy layoff that kept him off the scene for several years, his two second-up efforts since returning have both been encouraging.

Otheroneson should land on speed, firm ground suits, and in an open race, the seven-year-old makes some each-way appeal.
