Race 1 - 12:15PM TAB We're On Tips (1100m)
7. Vangogh Bankcheque showed above-average ability in his first campaign, which opened with a stylish Echuca win when running the fastest closing sectionals of the October 20 meeting.
That preparation culminated with a third here when attacking the line in a race taken out by Pallaton, who we saw bolt in with a Group 3 at Caulfield last month, and his slick lead-up work suggests he is ready to fire fresh.
1. Legacy Bound has the best exposed form as a dual stakes winner, including a narrow fresh success when saluting at Listed level over this track-and-trip in the spring, a campaign that culminated with a third in the Group 1 Coolmore Stud Stakes, which is an outstanding reference for this.
3. Burma Star may furnish over longer trips as the preparation goes on, but he proved himself at 1100m early in the season and was a stakes winner over 1400m here in the spring. He could be the pick of the closers.
4. Military Tycoon is harder to line up after being plain in both runs this time in, but this is a big drop in grade from the Black Caviar Lightning and he brings race fitness.
Selections: 7-1-3-4.
Race 2 - 12:45PM Herald Sun Plate Tips (1100m)
3. She's An Artist created an impression last year when bolting in at her first two starts, including a massive straight-track triumph here, before losing as a short-priced favourite to Bridal Waltz, who was a Group 3 winner at her next start.
A short spring preparation did not work out, but while things looked dicey first-up on February 9 after a tardy beginning, she recovered and rattled home with the fastest last 400m and 200m of the Caulfield Heath program.
9. Verdoux bounced back to winning form with a fresh triumph at Caulfield on February 21, showing a nice turn of foot from off the speed. He failed in his only straight-track attempt, which is the main knock.
8. Hezdarnhottoo has not quite been able to take his trial form to race day, but he is an interesting acceptor from Sydney for Bjorn Baker, and he carries 3kg less from his return assignment.
2. Nervous Witness could be a big improver after failing to fire a shot first-up off a huge spell. He has since been back to the jump-outs.
Selections: 3-9-8-2.
Race 3 - 1:20PM Good Friday Appeal Ottawa Stakes Tips (1000m)
10. Sanctuary has been heavily backed early and it is a tricky setup with four of the five runners with race experience already winners taking on five first starters.
The Ciaron Maher-trained filly looks very forward off her jump-out work, including a slick heat win on February 9 before working through the line under a nice hold on February 23.
2. Medicinal is another Godolphin contender who was competitive in a Blue Diamond Prelude before dropping back to a Ballarat maiden and bolting in last time. Drawing out for the straight 1000m may well suit.
6. Chapados is a big price but looks a nice type off what we have seen at the Flemington jump-outs, having completed three heats here this year.
5. Better Off Alone was only fair in a Group 3 Gimcrack Stakes debut before a spell, but she won her latest Sydney trial and went to the line under a hold in a nice piece of work.
Selections: 10-2-6-5.
Race 4 - 1:55PM Kirin Ichiban Shaftesbury Avenue Handicap Tips (1400m)
2. Cafe Millennium has found a new lease of life under the Hayes yard, with the big son of Not A Single Doubt clearly relishing the 1400m at Flemington.
He brought up his third win over this track-and-trip last time at Listed level when beating a smart Sabaj with Enxuto in third, who was Group 2 placed last Saturday. His prior victory here came over Transatlantic in the spring, a subsequent Group 1 winner of the Toorak Handicap.
3. Persian Spirit is talented and getting back up to 1400m is a big tick after a good closing effort in the Oakleigh Plate, while he also looks well in at the weights being only half a kilo over the minimum.
4. On Display heads the early markets and the mare moved well in her last Cranbourne jump-out on February 23, while she has won two of four first-up attempts.
8. Wonder Boy is working towards a peak performance and getting out to 1400m looks suitable third-up.
Selections: 2-3-4-8.
Race 5 - 2:30PM TAB & World Pool Kewney Stakes Tips (1600m)
6. Exit could be the value here as she still has not quite put it all together, but she has always shown talent and can improve again.
After being set a big task first-up, she was at the rear from a wide barrier at Caulfield when getting to 1400m last time and finished off well. She still needs to settle better, but the freshness should have subsided with a few runs under the belt and she can land closer from a better draw.
1. Salty Pearl is as honest as they come and got the better of Exit in the recent Caulfield clash taken out by a very smart Sheza Alibi. She was also strong when resuming at Caulfield and her spring culminated with a Group 2 victory over this distance.
2. Sass Appeal is now deep into her first campaign but she is holding form, and while she had all favours last start, she still put a decent margin on Ole Dancer.
7. Lathlain got a win out of the way first-up at Seymour and this is much harder, but she at least comes here with confidence.
Selections: 6-1-2-7.
Race 6 - 3:05PM Darley Sires' Produce Stakes Tips (1400m)
1. Zambales is very short in the betting now but brings comfortably the best ratings into this Group 2 after recording the fastest last 600m when fourth in the Blue Diamond, with blinkers going on ahead of that Group 1 attempt.
Tempted’s half-brother now gets to 1400m with Mark Zahra taking the reins and the big-race rider also has barrier two at his disposal on Saturday.
12. Regal Ambition will relish getting to 1400m after finishing second at Ballarat over 1200m on February 14, where she ran the fastest final 200m of the program. She's from the same family as champion mare Alinghi.
5. Dr Hook has not shown his best yet after being green on debut in Sydney when fancied and then well held in the Silver Slipper fresh, but the trip south and the rise in trip could bring him on.
11. Refuse To Curtsy is a big watch with the VRC Oaks-winning combination of Thomas Carberry and John Allen linking up again, and the filly is a half-sister to Strictly Business – the horse this pair combined with to win the VRC Oaks. She caught the eye late on debut at odds and the rise in trip looks ideal.
Selections: 1-12-5-11.
Race 7 - 3:40PM Sharp EIT The All-Star Mile Tips (1600m)
11. Leica Lucy has drawn wide but Pride Of Jenni could string them out early, so it may not be a huge disadvantage, and we are getting a double-figure price for a galloper who is knocking on the door.
She ran the fastest closing splits of the Futurity Stakes on resumption and the last trial leading into that suggested she had come back even better, while she showed promise in the spring without the penny fully dropping and arguably her best run of that preparation came in the Group 1 Toorak where she ran the fastest closing sectionals.
1. Tom Kitten is looking to become the first multiple winner of the All-Star Mile and his lead-up has been terrific, defying the pattern of the card first up on February 7 at Caulfield when coming from back in the field and running the fastest last 200m of the meeting.
7. Sabaj looks a knockout as an X-factor galloper, and while he is not well weighted under the conditions, he can improve second up and a high-pressure race could see him explode.
8. Pride Of Jenni heads a competitive early market and we all know what she will do in trying to run them into the ground from the front, while three of her four Group 1 wins have come over this track-and-trip.
Selections: 11-1-7-8.
Race 8 - 4:15PM De Bortoli Wines Matron Stakes Tips (1600m)
5. Damask Rose gets one final chance, although the daughter of Savabeel is testing the patience of many punters, and 1600m on a bigger track could be what she is searching for.
There were some excuses second-up as she never looked comfortable in a slowly run race and was in restricted room at stages, and with the rise in trip now suiting she appears one of the few ready to peak in this field.
1. Benagil comes out of the same Mannerism Stakes as Damask Rose and put in a sound effort there with 60kg, while she has won two of four second-up runs and is a very classy performer when right.
8. Sea What I See brings an unbeaten second-up record and the February 14 return here was encouraging, with Jamie Mott to stick and a low draw to work with.
3. Philia was expected to show more in that same race but may have just needed the run first up off a good break, and she has since been back to the jump-outs.
Selections: 5-1-8-3.
Race 9 - 4:55PM Yulong Newmarket Handicap Tips (1200m)
2. Tentyris is one of the most exciting sprinters in Australia and the Godolphin colt finished his spring campaign with a brilliant Group 1 victory in the Coolmore Stud Stakes.
The Black Caviar Lightning resumption was equally breathtaking as he made ground over 1000m, which is a bit on the short side for him, and while he must give weight to most rivals in a Newmarket Handicap as a three-year-old, he could simply just be better than these.
14. Wodeton has burned punters with a long run of outs since a brilliant debut win but has still been mostly competitive, and a recent Flemington straight trial looked sharp. Down in the weights with 50kg, he can run a race at big odds.
7. Benedetta was arguably the run of the race behind Tentyris in the Black Caviar Lightning and the Group 1-winning sprinter should be suited up to 1200m second up.
13. My Gladiola has been runner-up to Tentyris in her last two Group 1 attempts, so she has to be respected with the weight swing, even if there is a small query at a strong 1200m.
Selections: 2-14-7-13.
Race 10 - 5:35PM TAB Australian Cup Prelude Tips (2000m)
1. Augustus is an Australian Bloodstock import on debut Down Under and a multiple Group winner overseas, with Mark Zahra aboard after riding him in his last Caulfield trial, and the five-year-old looks a classy type.
That trial was a little inconclusive but still a pass mark, and the market may be the best guide as he could easily blow this lot away if the money comes, although Ciaron Maher first-up runners are not always screwed down fresh.
4. Immediacy could give this a serious shake. He nearly landed the cash for us at a big price first-up at Caulfield, was plain following that, and may simply have been flat off the big return. He carries 3.5kg less and a bounce back would not shock.
2. Whisky On The Hill caught the eye first-up at Caulfield at a big price and was a Group 3 winner here over 2600m in the spring. He may still be a run short but is generally thereabouts.
9. Jenni's Meadow could cash in as the runner with a strong fitness base, failing to run 2500m last start but having placed in her prior two over this distance.
Selections: 1-4-2-9.
