Saturday's Belmont race day features eight competitive events, with a possible track upgrade from the current Soft 6. Key tips include Starwalker as a value roughie in Race 4, Bosun as the next best in Race 5, and Silver Eye for value in the Blue Spec Stakes (Race 7). Hubble's Dragon is highlighted as the main bet in the Bernard Couch Memorial Handicap (Race 8) after a strong performance last start. Expect high-quality fields and strategic opportunities; check the track rating and late market moves for added context.

Eight races will be contested on Saturday's Belmont program, where there is likely to be an upgrade or two from the current Soft 6 track rating.

The rail is out nine metres and it is worth noting that the cutaway is in effect for the August 15 card.

Belmont Tips August 15

Belmont Roughie - Race 4 No. 4 Starwalker

Although it is a sharp rise in trip from a mile to 2100m for Saturday's fourth-up assignment, all three of Starwalker's victories have come when campaigning at 2100m or further, including a pair of staying wins last winter.

While unable to salute throughout a long spring and summer campaign, there were still some competitive performances in stronger company than he faces here, including an Ascot third over 2200m in 66+ company in January.

1300m was always going to be too sharp first-up, which a 200/1 starting price also suggested, but his July 4 return at massive odds was quite good as he worked home from the rear for a seventh-of-16 finish on a Soft surface.

There were then some excuses second-up over seven furlongs before he made ground without threatening in his latest appearance over the mile.

Starwalker has not shown a great deal of tactical speed, but he can at least be neutral from a better draw this time, with Chanelle Cooper retaining the ride and taking 2kg off after riding a winning double at Belmont last Saturday.

Tabtouch - Westspeed Platinum Series Ht1 Tips (Race 5)

Belmont Next Best Bet - Race 5 No. 5 Bosun

With a gap between runs since recording a stylish breakthrough victory at Northam on June 8, there could be some late market opposition to current favourite Bosun.

The lightly raced six-year-old has clearly had his share of problems after making his debut only last December, but we are happy to trust the Mitchell Pateman stable to have him ready while remaining at 1300m.

Bosun showed good ability throughout his first campaign and gained a confidence boost last time when winning a maiden that has already produced three subsequent winners.

This is harder, but there are no world beaters in this Westspeed Platinum Series heat, while closest market rival Flying Maradona arrives off back-to-back wins and may have been gifted the latest when the runner-up threw the race away late.

Bosun appears to possess enough class to go on with it, while Slick is one at longer odds to consider after an okay first-up run and an eye-catching second-up victory last campaign before winning an Ascot Class 1.

Blue Spec Stakes Tips (Race 7)

Belmont Value Bet - Race 7 No. 4 Silver Eye

The combination of Lucy Fiore and Adam Durrant has been profitable for punters over the past 12 months, producing 13 winners at a strike rate above 22% and an ROI of almost 19%.

They team up with Silver Eye, who was specked first-up over 1400m on August 1 and, although unsuited by the race shape, still made some late ground after previously catching the eye in a July 13 Lark Hill trial.

The son of Sessions has had an interesting career after being kept mostly to sprint trips early before beginning to relish further last season, highlighted by two wins within a week over 1400m and 1500m at Ascot.

That preparation ended with two Listed placings, including one over 2000m before a 2300m placing in the Pinjarra Cup, while his second-up record reads well with two wins and two placings from five attempts.

Versatile and boasting a solid Belmont record, Silver Eye is among the each-way contenders in the penultimate and can be finishing strongly off the speed alongside favourite Lillian, who comes here off a big win last Saturday.

Bernard Couch Memorial Handicap Tips (Race 8)

Belmont Best Bet - Race 8 No. 5 Hubble's Dragon

Although a touch disappointing as a beaten favourite when finishing fifth-of-13 at Ascot over 1400m to end his summer campaign, that may simply have been one run too many for Hubble's Dragon.

The gelding had opened that preparation with back-to-back victories before finishing runner-up in the Magic Millions WA Three-Year-Old Trophy at Pinjarra, and he still gives the impression that seven furlongs could suit at some stage.

His August 1 return at Belmont was the first time he had finished outside the top two over 1200m, but it was still an excellent performance after settling back in an on-pace dominated race and recording the fastest final 200m of the entire program.

While Hubble's Dragon rises in weight from that 72+ assignment, he drops into a much easier One Metro Win contest second-up and should have taken good improvement from the run.

Sherpa Express deserves respect on some excellent two- and three-year-old form lines, but his seasonal return was ordinary, while Lucy Fiore takes the reins on Hubble's Dragon after riding 18 winners for the Daniel Morton stable over the past 12 months at an ROI above 43%.
