Morphettville Value Bet - Race 5 No. 2 Officiate

One of the best South Australian operations with a tried horse is the Bain and Taylor yard, who paid $60,000 for former Chris Waller-trained galloper Officiate through the Inglis May Online Sale.

He should prove a savvy buy for connections and one capable of working through the lower grades in Adelaide, with some decent references from his former yard including a Stakes placing last spring and a perfect top-three record from four wet-track appearances.

Officiate has built nicely into this campaign, finishing third on stable debut over 1250m before stepping to the mile on July 25 and improving into second behind Centu Cavaddi, while two runners from that race have since won.

Centu Cavaddi was a fit Victorian visitor who appears to be putting it all together, while Officiate has kept ticking over with a jump-out on August 6 ahead of this third-up assignment.

A wide draw is the main query, but he should be nearing his peak and an each-way price is available, with Extinguish potentially the biggest danger after opening her winter campaign with consecutive seconds and boasting a good Parks record.

Morphettville Next Best Bet - Race 7 No. 2 Dancing Storm

This is arguably the best placement Dancing Storm has seen for some time, with the Jolly-trained galloper returning to a circuit where he has recorded two wins and three placings from seven attempts.

That record includes a victory at Morphettville Parks on November 29 before moving into stronger company, and while he has not saluted since, most of his subsequent performances across South Australia and Victoria have remained competitive.

His latest run came in a strong BM84 at Caulfield on July 25, where he was ridden too negatively and never really came into contention in an on-speed dominated race won by the unbeaten Tennessee Bound.

Dancing Storm still recorded the fastest final 200m of the entire program, while runner-up Behaviour has since franked the form with a Melbourne victory.

The sharp rise in weight is offset by a significant drop in grade back to a BM72, and with Noel Callow drawing barrier one, Dancing Storm can settle much closer and potentially box-seat behind the main speed influences drawn wider.

Festival Hire Handicap Tips (Race 8)

Morphettville Roughie - Race 8 No. 11 Gazelle

Although she could not break through during her first campaign through spring and early summer last year, Gazelle still showed promise with four placings.

The mare has furnished since then, opening her second preparation with a dominant maiden victory at Mount Gambier on May 22 before an eye-catching second-up effort at Murray Bridge.

She remained at that circuit for a drop in grade and brought up win number two third-up on July 7 before stepping into Saturday metropolitan company on July 18.

Gazelle was set a big task after getting a long way back and, aside from the winner, was the only runner making meaningful ground from the rear, recording the second-fastest final 200m of a race that has already produced three subsequent winners.

Off a short freshen and dropping back in trip, she can ideally settle a little closer after getting back in her past three starts, and with a genuine tempo expected, Gazelle is at least an each-way chance at a double-figure price.

Quayclean Handicap Tips (Race 9)

Morphettville Best Bet - Race 9 No. 4 Bold Secret

Noel Callow is a strong and experienced rider who should prove a handy addition to the South Australian ranks, and his first Adelaide victory since the move came aboard Bold Secret on August 1.

The gelding romped away by two lengths that day, atoning for consecutive seconds across June and July after an earlier Geelong breakthrough.

He seemingly had every chance when runner-up on July 18, and while deeper into the campaign now, Bold Secret still looks like a horse who can continue improving with racing after doing plenty wrong earlier in his career.

That latest victory was the most professional performance we have seen from him, and although there is a slight rise in grade here, this does not appear much harder, with in-form veteran Big Sue the main danger, although he draws out.

Cielao and Mellifluent are at single-figure quotes, with the former well beaten in both winter runs, while Mellifluent was comfortably held by Bold Secret a fortnight ago, and barrier one gives Callow the option to either lead or box-seat.
