Belmont Roughie Tip

Belmont Roughie - Race 5 No. 5 Doctor Jay

The punters found Doctor Jay via his July 30 resumption at Belmont, with heavy support late despite the 12-month layoff.

While he was disappointing given the market push, Doctor Jay appeared to pick up late and he arrived there off a solid trial win.

On ability, the son of War Chant is least at Saturday class in Perth and he's clearly a much better horse than what we saw fresh.

We're willing to forgive one bad run and with a fast speed predicted, a cold ride and one last look at them could be the right recipe here.

Caulfield Roughie Tip

Caulfield Roughie - Race 2 No. 6 Jabbawockeez

Aside from a flop in May, you won't find too many bad runs from Jabbawockeez, who was good first-up in stronger company.

He ran the second-fastest last 400m and 200m of the race via the Caulfield resumption, while getting up in trip is a tick.

That last run was his first time being out of money at Caulfield, with a win and two thirds recorded from his previous three tries at this circuit.

Jabbawockeez has saluted in two of four second-up attempts and from a low draw over this longer distance, he can settle much closer.

Doomben Roughie Tip

Doomben Roughie - Race 7 No. 9 Naval Trader

The fresh horse on the scene here is Naval Trader, who worked well via a recent trial and a drying surface will be in his favour.

Outside of his April and May showings on wet ground, the grey has been a consistent campaigner over the journey.

Following a 1350m Doomben victory early last season, he wasn't disgraced when in the market for a 1400m Listed affair at Eagle Farm.

Naval Trader has only finished outside of the money once in five first-up attempts and he's placed via his last two fresh runs at Doomben.

Morphettville Roughie Tip

Morphettville Roughie - Race 6 No. 3 Hoodys Horse

His Victorian references stack up well enough for a 0-64 in Adelaide and now third-up, the six-year-old is well placed up to 1950m.

Hoodys Horse was brave fresh with 60kg on a Heavy 9 and he was again forced to spend some early petrol tickets second-up.

He was racing consistently throughout last winter, with a soft track winning double recorded after running into a smart Revelare.

The six-year-old handles all surfaces and from barrier six, Hoodys Horse should be able to settle in the first pair or two early.

Rosehill Roughie Tip

Rosehill Roughie - Race 3 No. 10 Reflect

1100m proved too sharp on debut before a spell, but that Warwick Farm performance was much better than it reads.

The form through the trifecta of that February 19 race reads quite well, while Reflect caught the eye via her July 19 return.

She was ridden very cold in that fresh tilt, but the Joe Pride-trained galloper got warm late and she'll furnish as the distances increase.

Reflect is very well bred, being by So You Think and from a three-time stakes placed mare who is out of a dual Group 1 winner.
