Ascot Roughie Tip

Ascot Roughie - Race 5 No. 9 Awesome Boy

Awesome Boy was progressing nicely in his second campaign, which included two wins capped by a dominant all-the-way victory over this track and trip in April.

He returned on November 4 and, ridden colder, found the line strongly when giving 3.5kg to the winner.

With that run under his belt and a 6.5kg weight drop this time, he looks well placed to improve sharply.

Expect him to roll forward and give a real sight at odds.

Cranbourne Roughie Tip

Cranbourne Roughie - Race 9 No. 3 Nadal

Nadal finally resumed in the Caulfield Sprint after multiple interrupted attempts to start his spring, and the effort was a genuine pass mark.

He loomed into the race before fitness gave out late, and his second-up Heavy-track miss is easily forgiven.

Last year’s Meteorite win was outstanding and pointed to a sprinter capable of measuring up in stronger races.

Now third-up from a long break, this is the right point in the prep to rediscover that level.

Kembla Grange Roughie Tip

Kembla Grange Roughie - Race 9 No. 4 Ruby Flyer

Ruby Flyer comes further into contention if the rain arrives given his perfect three-from-three Heavy record.

His good and soft numbers are also solid which offers confidence regardless of conditions.

The prep has been unusual, with two big defeats before his Goulburn Cup boilover and two flops that followed.

He has since delivered two solid efforts, including a huge Big Dance run with the fastest last 600m, and a market push would not surprise.

Morphettville Roughie Tip

Morphettville Roughie - Race 9 No. 1 Howl

Howl was a strong first-up run at big odds on November 8 despite not landing the cash.

The veteran produced the fastest last 200m of the entire meeting which is a clear indicator he has returned well.

Shifting to the roomier Morphettville main track is a positive for his pattern.

He also won this race last year at a big price and carries 3.5kg less after the claim compared to that 2024 win.

Sunshine Coast Roughie Tip

Sunshine Coast Roughie - Race 10 No. 4 Bews

Bews produced an eye-catching first-up return at Doomben in a stronger race when running the fastest last 600m and 400m.

His good fresh profile suggests the gap between runs is no issue here.

Returning to the Sunshine Coast suits a strong local yard that places him well in this grade.

Via his last second-up attempt, he came from last to run the fastest last 400m of the Eagle Farm meeting at Listed level, and he looks a big price in a BM78.
