Plenty of value can be found across Saturday’s meetings, with several runners flying under the radar despite bringing strong form references into their respective races.

For those looking to pair these with more proven selections, Saturday’s Best Bets provides a guide to the leading chances across the major programs.

Ascot Roughie Tip

Ascot Roughie - Race 4 No. 2 Crunchy Nut

Crunchy Nut is going well and while he hasn’t won in three attempts over 1600m, that doesn’t tell the full story.

He carried 61.5kg two starts back over this trip when coming from back and wide, finishing just a stride off the winner.

Last start at Ascot on March 14, the five-year-old was again doing his best work late, running the race-fastest last 600m against the on-speed pattern.

The five-year-old was specked that day and now lands in a similar race with a better set-up, where he can settle closer from gate five under Tash Faithful.

Caulfield Roughie Tip

Caulfield Roughie - Race 8 No. 6 Immediacy

Immediacy has had three testing runs to open his 2026 campaign, with a freshen-up between runs now a positive.

He covered ground in the Australian Cup Prelude last time and was completely unsuited by the pattern of that race.

That followed a strong Group 3 effort when just missing behind Light Infantry Man, with that form franked through a Group 1 Australian Cup victory.

Not always the easiest to catch, but 2000m on a dry track suits, and this looks a winnable, albeit open, Easter Cup.

Eagle Farm Roughie Tip

Eagle Farm Roughie - Race 8 No. 7 Superhero

Superhero can be forgiven for his last-start failure, where he pulled up with cardiac arrhythmia when hard in the market at Doomben.

The Archibald yard can get them to bounce back sharply, and his prior form had been consistent.

That includes a win over Cross Tasman, a three-time Sydney winner, and a strong fresh effort in a race that has produced two subsequent winners.

If returning to that level, Superhero is capable of improving sharply here.

Oakbank Roughie Tip

Oakbank Roughie - Race 7 No. 4 Maracourt

Maracourt is a big price but brings solid fresh credentials into this assignment.

He has completed three March workouts leading in, including a good Oakbank trial and a solid effort when second to the in-form Mic Drop.

That rival was race-fit and coming off a stakes placing, making the trial performance encouraging.

While beaten in this race last year, there were excuses, and earlier this season, Maracourt was competitive multiple times at stakes level.

Randwick Roughie Tip

Randwick Roughie - Race 10 No. 13 Beside The Ocean

Beside The Ocean is a half-sister to Golden Slipper winner Farnan and has shown ability across two short preps.

This is aggressive placement, but Chris Waller is clearly targeting black-type early in the preparation.

Her last run at Randwick lacked dash, but that followed an unlucky Wyong effort, and she showed a sharp turn-of-foot to salute on Boxing Day.

A classy Damian Lane takes the reins, who is striking at better than 20% for the Waller stable over the last 12 months.
