Ascot Roughie - Race 6 No. 5 Valdarena

With three wins and four placings from 11 starts, Valdarena has been mostly consistent in three preps.

She progressed over a long third campaign, which included a big return win and she was a metro winner over this trip.

Her April 14 trial was strong and that 1000m heat was only bettered on the clock by the two Group trials that morning.

There's still some upside with Valdarena and she's the fresh horse in what looks a winnable race on return.

Caulfield Roughie Tip


Caulfield Roughie - Race 7 No. 4 Stylish Secret

While 1400m proved too slick first-up, his late work was encouraging via that April 5 resumption.

Stylish Secret then wasn't sharp enough to grab the back of the eventual winner when contesting Mornington Guineas.

After hitting a flat spot, he picked up again late in that mile feature and getting to 2000m looks ideal now.

Stylish Secret has handy form from his first prep, which includes a second to Evaporate after breaking through third-up.

Eagle Farm Roughie Tip


Eagle Farm Roughie - Race 1 No. 8 El Pensador

There was plenty to like from his first QLD campaign, with the highlights coming second and third-up.

He handled the rise from a Dalby maiden when taking out a Doomben Class 1 and he overcame trouble in that metro win.

El Pensador is still a work in progress and there's room for improvement over 1600m second-up off an even return.

He was unsuited in a muddling affair via that April 15 resumption and Kyle Wilson-Taylor is back aboard here.

Hawkesbury Roughie Tip


Hawkesbury Roughie - Race 6 No. 11 Alabama State

Hawkesbury is a horses for courses circuit and this local colt is unbeaten from two starts on his home track.

With competitive efforts via his last three black-type attempts, this Group 3 is well worth a shot at the stumps.

Alabama State was very unlucky third-up last prep and he held form throughout the spring.

He's been ticking over fairly in two lead-up runs and he warrants respect in an open edition of the Hawkesbury Guineas.

Morphettville Roughie Tip


Morphettville Roughie - Race 3 No. 4 Invertational

It's been a quiet autumn for the Clarken & O'Shea yard, but they've got strong chances this Saturday.

Invertational is on stable debut and the proven fresh performer has been working well ahead of this resumption.

Fresh last prep, she beat Danny's St Darcy, who was then Group-placed twice and a Listed winner in December.

The big Morphettville circuit should suit as she's likely to settle off them, but Invertational can produce a big finish.
