Belmont Roughie Tip

Belmont Roughie - Race 5 No. 7 Daytona Pete

Daytona Pete remains a lightly raced galloper for a rising five-year-old and may be ready to produce his best this preparation.

The son of Gingerbread Man showed plenty of promise early in his career with two wins, including a smart Ascot success, before his progress stalled during a short autumn campaign last year.

There was strong support for him at odds last start after he produced the fastest 1000m trial of the June 8 Belmont set, and he should strip fitter following that June 20 return.

This looks one of the easier assignments he's tackled for some time, and the rise to 1300m makes the each-way quote look appealing.

Flemington Roughie Tip

Flemington Roughie - Race 9 No. 9 The Mean Fiddler

Patrick Payne saddles the two leading hopes in the Silver Bowl Series Final, with stablemate Clever Trevor expected to dominate the betting.

The Mean Fiddler has quietly built a handy profile, showing ability during his first preparation before using his Swan Hill return as an ideal fitness run.

The rise to 1500m suited when runner-up at Bendigo, where he conceded 5kg to an older winner and still performed with plenty of merit.

Back against his own age, up to a mile and carrying 6.5kg less, this shapes as the run he's been building towards, while his Heavy-track win is another positive.

Murray Bridge Roughie Tip

Murray Bridge Roughie - Race 2 No. 10 Vega Now

Vega Now is bred to be above average, with Group 1 winners Bint Marscay, Filante and Kenny's Best Pal featuring prominently in her family.

The filly attracted strong market support on debut at Balaklava and, despite her inexperience showing late, still finished an encouraging third.

She advertised her ability with a smart Murray Bridge trial win before that debut and now looks capable of taking another step forward with race experience under her belt.

The rise to 1200m should suit second-up, while a 2kg weight drop and the addition of a nose roll further enhance her claims.

Rosehill Roughie Tip

Rosehill Roughie - Race 7 No. 1 Lincoln Rocks

Lincoln Rocks has an excellent fourth-up profile, highlighted by a Kyneton Cup victory and a narrow Moonee Valley defeat during previous preparations.

His latest campaign started quietly before testing conditions proved against him second-up, although his most recent effort suggested he's ready to improve.

Strong late sectionals over 1800m last start point to the rise in distance being a positive, while the drop back to BM78 company also appeals.

From a better draw, he can settle closer to the speed and carries slightly less weight than when winning at this level previously.

Sunshine Coast Roughie Tip

Sunshine Coast Roughie - Race 8 No. 4 The Inflictor

The Glasshouse Handicap looks an open affair, with several double-figure chances capable of making their presence felt.

The Inflictor appeals as one of the better roughies after producing honest efforts in stronger company this preparation, including a solid first-up performance in the Hall Mark Stakes.

His tactical speed should prove an asset from barrier five with blinkers applied, and getting back to 1400m looks much more suitable than last start's drop in trip.

At generous odds, he shapes as one of the better value plays in Saturday's feature.
