Ascot Roughie Tip
Ascot Roughie - Race 8 No. 8 Fear The Wind
A number of these come through a messy AJ Scahill lead-up on November 22, and one of the more unlucky runners in that 2100m affair was Fear The Wind.
He found significant trouble in the run home when blocked until the 100m, and now rises slightly in trip, which is a plus.
His record at 2200m reads five wins and two thirds from eight attempts, with his latest try at the journey resulting in a stakes placing on heavy ground.
Over 2300m in March he was also narrowly beaten in the Listed Pinjarra Cup, so this distance range is ideal.
Ballarat Roughie Tip
Ballarat Roughie - Race 7 No. 5 Contemporary
Contemporary makes his stable debut for Lindsey Smith.
His Geelong jump-out on November 27 suggested he has settled in well and is forward enough to produce a competitive fresh run.
The ex-Godolphin gelding owns solid first-up credentials, with his last two fresh outings coming at stakes level where he performed admirably.
With the 2kg claim for Luke Cartwright, he is attractively weighted at 55.5kg and maps to secure a soft run from barrier one.
Doomben Roughie Tip
Doomben Roughie - Race 9 No. 9 Shadwell Lane
Shadwell Lane hasn't had much luck at the barrier draws and another wide gate presents a challenge here.
A double-figure quote is available for the risk with a filly who has hardly put a hoof wrong.
She just peaked late on her fresh effort, with an extra furlong suitable second-up, and her November 11 lead-up trial win was sharp.
She broke through in style over this track and trip before a spell and still has plenty of upside.
Morphettville Roughie Tip
Morphettville Roughie - Race 4 No. 9 Power Dancer
He’s a half-brother to Brave Action, who didn't progress, but did show talent early.
Power Dancer produced a nice debut finish at Murray Bridge when recording the fastest last 400m and 200m of a 1200m maiden.
The gelding was allowed to find his feet in that first race-day appearance, although he did show tactical speed in his lead-up work.
Now from barrier one, there's an opportunity to settle much closer to the speed here.
