Ascot Roughie - Race 10 No. 6 Hez Got The Safe

Hez Got The Safe is much better than what his first-up effort suggested, as he lost ground throughout despite beginning cleanly.

The big gelding never saw clear running in the straight, making that run an easy forgive.

He showed early talent with a Bunbury win over this trip and a placing behind a flying Storyville last spring.

With that run under the belt and a slightly easier race, he can improve sharply at odds.

Eagle Farm Roughie - Race 5 No. 9 Tribeca Star

Tribeca Star didn’t fire in a short winter prep, but a tidy trial has him ready to perform fresh.

He rarely misses the money first-up, with the only exception coming in a strong Listed Ramornie Handicap.

He has a consistent record at Eagle Farm, including three runner-up finishes from his attempts here.

Given his fresh profile and suitable grade, he appeals as a value chance.

Gawler Roughie Tip

Gawler Roughie - Race 5 No. 1 Bamyan Buddha

Bamyan Buddha’s last two runs look plain, but they came in much stronger company, including behind a dominant Air Assault.

He pushed that same galloper when runner-up in the Gawler Cup, and a return to this track is a major positive.

His Gawler record reads superbly with four wins and two seconds from seven starts, with the only miss coming on wet ground.

A big weight is the query, but double-figure odds make him an appealing rough hope.

Pakenham Roughie Tip

Pakenham Roughie - Race 5 No. 2 Jenni’s Meadow

Jenni’s Meadow can lift third-up while dropping in grade after working in a fast-run race last start.

Her Caulfield return was encouraging, closing strongly late, and she now gets to a more suitable 2000m.

Her three-year-old third-up form includes Group placings over this trip, highlighting her ability at this stage of a prep.

With a 2kg claim and firmer ground to suit, she looks a genuine each-way roughie.

Randwick Roughie Tip

Randwick Roughie - Race 10 No. 16 Barbray

Barbray shapes as a knockout chance for the Waller stable resuming at 1400m.

Two solid trials have him ready to run well first-up, with his latest effort showing good intent.

His debut preparation was strong, including wins on affected ground and a competitive showing in the Winx Guineas.

With a soft draw and suitable trip fresh, he is capable of surprising at odds.
