Carlos Alcaraz vs Novak Djokovic Tips, Prediction & Live Stream

It's one of the biggest Grand Slam finals of all time as Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic collide for the 2026 Australian Open title on Sunday night.

History beckons inside Rod Laver Arena in what is arguably the most-anticipated Grand Slam final in recent memory. Either Carlos Alcaraz becomes the youngest man in the Open Era to complete the Career Grand Slam or Novak Djokovic stands alone as the only singles player ever to pick up 25 major titles. Djokovic stunned the world as a $10 outsider by outlasting two-time defending champion Jannik Sinner in a five-set classic in the semi-finals and will now be aiming to improve his extraordinary 10-0 record in Australian Open finals and capture his first slam title since the 2023 US Open. Meanwhile, Alcaraz survived a five-set epic of his own in the semis, overcoming a bout of cramps and Alexander Zverev to advance into his first Australian Open final, improving his record in Grand Slam deciding sets to a ridiculous 15-1.

I would love for this to be an all-time classic and you can absolutely never discount the GOAT, but I just can't see Djokovic outlasting Sinner and Alcaraz back-to-back at 38 years of age over the space of 48 hours. If he does, it's arguably the most herculean effort in sporting history. We've seen Djokovic struggle to back up after long matches over the last year - he was eliminated in all four Grand Slam semi-finals last year without winning a single set. Alcaraz has transformed into a consistently ruthless beast at the majors, winning 11 of his last 13 slam matches in straight sets - and he was on course to straight set Zverev before the onset of cramps.

I believe Alcaraz 3-0 in set betting offers some good value here, along with Under 39.5 total games. Four of the last five matches between the pair have ended in straight sets - including Alcaraz's 6-4 7-6 6-2 triumph in the US Open semi-finals last year. I'm also liking Djokovic to serve Under 9.5 aces - he's never hit double-digit ace figures in all nine previous meetings with Alcaraz and if this is a short-ish match, that will only become more difficult.
  • Alcaraz has won 26 of his last 27 Grand Slam matches
  • Alcaraz has a 14-2 record in Grand Slam & Masters 1000 finals
  • Alcaraz has a 6-1 record in Grand Slam finals
  • Alcaraz has won 11 of his last 13 Grand Slam matches in straight sets
  • Four of the last five meetings between the pair have ended in straight sets
  • Alcaraz has won three of the last four Grand Slam meetings between the pair
  • Djokovic is 4-8 vs World No. 1 players in Grand Slam matches
  • Djokovic has lost two of his last three Grand Slam finals
  • Djokovic's last consecutive wins over the No. 1 & No. 2 ranked players was in 2023
  • Djokovic has served Under 9.5 aces in all nine previous meetings with Alcaraz
  • Djokovic served five aces in his four-set match with Alcaraz at last year's Australian Open
  • Over the last 52 weeks, Alcaraz has only been aced on 5.1 per cent of his return points

Alcaraz vs Djokovic Head To Head

Djokovic leads 5-4, but Alcaraz won their most-recent clash in the 2025 US Open semi-finals in straight sets. Djokovic famously toppled the Spaniard in two tiebreaks to secure an elusive Olympic gold medal at the 2024 Paris Games.

Alcaraz has picked up from where he left off last year at the majors, with his split with Juan Carlos Ferrero so far not doing any damage.

The Spaniard picked up his fifth and sixth major titles at Roland Garros and the US Open in 2025 and now stands on the verge of his seventh slam trophy and first at the Australian Open.

Afer easing past Adam Walton, Yannick Hanfmann and Corentin Moutet, Alcaraz raised his level for straight set dispatches of seeded players Tommy Paul and Alex de Minaur.

Alcaraz was on course for another straight sets win over Alexander Zverev in the semi-finals, but he was suddenly struck down by cramps early in the third set. The 22-year-old soldiered on, but dropped the next two sets in tiebreaks.

However, Alcaraz recovered in the deciding set, breaking Zverev as the German served for the match at 5-4, reeling off four straight games to emerge a  6-4, 7-6(5), 6-7(3), 6-7(4), 7-5 winner in the longest ever Australian Open semi-final at five hours and 27 minutes.

“I always say you have to believe in yourself, no matter if you are struggling or what you have been through," Alcaraz said in his on-court interview. "No matter about anything, you still have to believe in yourself all the time. I was struggling in the middle of the third set. Physically it was one of the most demanding matches that I have played in my short career.“I have been in these kinds of situations and I knew what I had to do. I had to put my heart into the match. I think I did it and I fought until the last ball. I knew I was going to have my chances. I am extremely proud of myself with the way that I fought and came back in the fifth set.”

It was no doubt one of the easiest passages through to a Grand Slam semi-final we've seen - and Djokovic certainly made the most of his good fortunes.

The 38-year-old didn't have to face a top 70 player across his first three rounds and then benefitted from Jakub Mensik's withdrawal and Lorenzo Musetti retiring with injury while dominating two sets to the good in their quarter-final.

Djokovic rode some luck to make the final four, but there was nothing lucky about his incredible five-set triumph over Jannik Sinner in what has got to be regarded as one of the Serbian's greatest ever career victories.

Changing his game style to one of all-out aggression, Djokovic fired his forehand like we've rarely seen before and was ridiculously clutch on serve, saving 16 of 18 break points - including all eight in the final set - to knock out the two-time defending champion 3–6, 6–3, 4–6, 6–4, 6–4.

“I am lost for words right now, to be honest,” Djokovic said after the match on court with Jim Courier. “It feels surreal to be honest. Playing for over four hours, it is nearly 2 am. Reminiscing about 2012 when I played Rafa in the final and that was almost six hours. The level of intensity and the quality of tennis was extremely high and I knew that was the only way for me to win tonight against him. He won the past five matches against me. He had my mobile number, so I had to change my number for tonight."
