Due to the global pandemic, the Wuhan Open wasn't held between 2020-23 and returned after a four-year absence in 2024.
Now upgraded to a WTA 1000 tournament, the Wuhan Open is a key battleground for players looking to collect valuable ranking points and qualify for the season-ending WTA Finals. It is the second straight WTA 1000 tournament taking place in China after Beijing the previous week.
Aryna Sabalenka has won the last three editions of the Wuhan Open in 2018, 2019 and 2024 with the World No. 1 going for a historic four-peat in 2025.
The tournament is played at the Optics Valley International Tennis Centre in Wuhan, which is the capital of the Hubei province.
There are 56 players competing in the singles draw, with the top eight seeds receiving opening round byes, while the doubles draw has 28 teams.
