The 2024 Wuhan Open will take place between October 7-13, with some of the best players on the WTA Tour squaring off for the 1000-level title.

It's the first time in five years that Wuhan will host their WTA tournament, with two-time champion Aryna Sabalenka and Coco Gauff set to headline the event.

WTA Wuhan Overview

The Wuhan Open was established in 2014, with Petra Kvitova winning the first of her two titles at the tournament.

Due to the global pandemic, the Wuhan Open wasn't held between 2020-23 and returns after a four-year absence in 2024.

Now upgraded to a WTA 1000 tournament, the Wuhan Open is a key battleground for players looking to collect valuable ranking points and qualify for the season-ending WTA Finals. It is the second straight WTA 1000 tournament taking place in China after Beijing the previous week.

Aryna Sabalenka won the last two editions of the Wuhan Open in 2018 and 2019, with the World No. 2 going for a belated hat-trick of titles in 2024.

The tournament is played at the Optics Valley International Tennis Centre in Wuhan, which is the capital of the Hubei province.

There are 56 players competing in the singles draw, with the top eight seeds receiving opening round byes, while the doubles draw has 28 teams.

WTA Wuhan 2024 Player Entry List

World No. 1 Iga Swiatek has pulled out of the 2024 Wuhan Open after recently splitting with her coach,  but a star-studded field has still assembled at the high-profile WTA 1000 event.

Two-time champion Aryna Sabalenka leads the way as the top seed and could meet Coco Gauff, the fourth seed, in the semi-finals.
Gauff is coming off a resurgent week at the China Open in Beijing, where she defeated Karolina Muchova for the 1000-level title.

Jessica Pegula, Jasmine Paolini and Emma Navarro are other top 10 players to watch, with 15 of the top 20 WTA players all spread out across the draw.

Home hopes again rest on fifth seed Qinwen Zheng, who famously won the gold medal for China at the Paris Olympics.
