Established back in 2004, the WTA Seoul tournament is played at the Seoul Olympic Park Tennis Centre.

The tournament is staged on hardcourt and from 2024, is a WTA 500 tournament. The event was cancelled due to the pandemic from 2020-22, returning in 2023 as a 250 event before the aforementioned upgrade.

Maria Sharapova won the inaugural tournament in 2004, which was the same season she announced herself to the world by winning Wimbledon.

Venus Williams and Caroline Wozniacki are other former World No. 1 players to have reigned supreme at the Seoul Open, while Jessica Pegula - who has Korean heritage - is the defending champion having defeated Yuan Yue in the 2023 final.

It's set to be the biggest and best Seoul Open yet, with the 2024 tournament featuring a star-studded field.

World No. 1 Iga Swiatek will make her debut at the tournament, while Pegula will return in a bid to defend her title after recently reaching her maiden major final at the US Open.

Elena Rybakina will also be hoping for a successful week in Seoul after a recent struggle with injuries and off-court issues.

The newest member of the top 10 - Emma Navarro - will also be a player to watch, with the American making her first slam semi-final at the US Open.

Other top 10 players in the field include Daria Kasatkina, Liudmila Samsonova, Diana Shnaider and Marta Kostyuk.

Australia will be represented by Alja Tomljanovic, who gains entry via her protected ranking after a long layoff with injury.
