Established back in 2004, the WTA Seoul tournament is played at the Seoul Olympic Park Tennis Centre.

The tournament is staged on hardcourt and from 2024, was upgraded to a WTA 500 tournament. The event was cancelled due to the pandemic from 2020-22, returning in 2023 as a 250 event before the aforementioned upgrade.

Maria Sharapova won the inaugural tournament in 2004, which was the same season she announced herself to the world by winning Wimbledon.

Venus Williams and Caroline Wozniacki are other former World No. 1 players to have reigned supreme at the Seoul Open, while Jessica Pegula - who has Korean heritage - won the 2023 edition. Beatriz Haddad Maia is the defending champion.
