Iga Swiatek vs Sorana Cirstea Tips, Prediction & Live Stream - Swiatek faces in-form Cirstea in Seoul opener

Swiatek has recaptured some of her best tennis since midway through the season and will be hoping for a big finish to the year in Asia, where she has a chance at usurping Aryna Sabalenka for the World No. 1 ranking if she can sweep some titles. However, Swiatek hasn't really had much success in this part of the world so far in her career - she's only won one title in Asia and that came in 2023 in Beijing. In saying that, Swiatek had never performed well on grass prior to this season before surging to the Wimbledon title. Meanwhile, Cirstea has been in great form as of late, making yet another comeback from injury and coming into this contest having won 12 of her last 14 matches - she has nothing to lose heading into this showdown.

Swiatek has dominated this matchup in the past, but this will be her first match since the US Open and Cirstea should be confident with her current form and level. Backing Swiatek to prevail, but I think the Romanian can make her work for it.

Swiatek leads 5-0, with the last four victories coming in straight sets - including a most-recent 6-4 6-3 win in the R16 of Cincinnati just before the US Open.

Swiatek comes into this contest with a 53-13 record on the season, rising back to World No. 2 after almost dropping out of the top 10 earlier in the year.

Everything changed for Swiatek when she made the Bad Homburg final on grass before blitzing her way to the Wimbledon title, double bageling Amanda Anisimova in the final.

The Pole also secured the silverware in Cincinnati, but her US Open ended in somewhat disappointing fashion in the quarter-finals as Anisimova got her revenge.

Nevertheless, Swiatek arrives in Seoul having won 18 of her last 20 matches and will be looking to impress in her tournament debut this week.

Cirstea has registered a 23-15 record on the season, hauling herself from No. 169 in the rankings just a few months ago to a current mark of No. 66.

Injuries meant that Cirstea missed the second half of the 2024 season, but the veteran has made up for lost time lately, winning the title in Cleveland, making the semi-finals in Iasi and quarter-finals in Dubai and Austin.

The Romanian came from qualifying to capture that Cleveland title just before the US Open, where she pushed Karolina Muchova to three sets in the second round.

Keeping her momentum going, Cirstea was untroubled in a dominant 6-3 6-1 victory over Anastasia Zakharova in her Seoul opening round, meaning she's won 12 of her last 14 matches.
