Joint holds a head-to-head lead, having beaten Kenin decisively in Hobart. With Joint’s consistent play and Kenin’s struggles, Joint is favored to advance, though a competitive contest is expected. It's been a brilliant season for Joint - the 19-year-old has secured her first two WTA titles and surged into the top 50, announcing herself as one of the best youngsters on tour. Kenin meanwhile continues to struggle since her initial breakthrough in 2020, which saw her win the Australian Open title and reach the final of Roland Garros. Despite propelling herself back into the top 30, it's Joint that is the bookies favourite for this clash in the Korean capital.
On current form, Joint should be winning this. Kenin hasn't won back-to-back matches since June and arrived in Seoul having lost seven of her last nine outings - including four straight. Joint has been the more steadier of the pair, but the Aussie can find herself in lengthy battles. I'm backing Joint to prevail with Over 18.5 total games.
Head To Head
Joint leads 1-0, absolutely crushing Kenin 6-3 6-1 in the Hobart quarter-finals at the start of the season.
Maya Joint Form
Joint has put together a sensational season, registering a 43-22 record at all levels and rising into the world's top 50 after starting the year outside the top 100.
The 19-year-old has excelled across all surfaces, winning the Rabat title on clay and the Eastbourne silverware on grass, while she's also made quarter or semi-finals in Hobart, Merida and a pair of 125K events on hardcourts.
It was a decent summer in North America for Joint, but she had the misfortune of running into eventual finalist Amanda Anisimova in the second round of the US Open. Improving against the elite is the next step for Joint - she's lost her last four matches against top 20 opponents in straight sets.
Joint got her Korea Open campaign up and running with a 6-4 7-6 victory over Linda Fruhvirtova, coming back from 2-4 down in the second set.
Sofia Kenin Form
Kenin comes into this contest with a 19-14 record on the season, hauling herself back into the world's top 30 after ending last year at No. 86.
The American's best results came in the opening months of the season, where she made the quarter-finals of the WTA 1000 event in Dubai - beating Jasmine Paolini along the way - and also finishing runner-up in Charleston.
However, the 26-year-old has struggled since the grass season, coming into Seoul having lost seven of her last nine matches.
It was obviously a disappointing summer for Kenin - she suffered opening round defeats in Montreal, Cincinnati and the US Open. The former World No. 4 bounced back with a battling 2-6, 6-3, 7-5 victory in her Seoul opener against Laura Siegemund.

Verdict
Kenin has been in poor form lately and barely scraped by in her opening round in Seoul.
Joint has been solid all year and beat Kenin in Hobart when the American was in better form. The Aussie should be able to double down in Seoul.
